Well… Here it is, our very first blog! A long time in the making mind you, many years of wonderous stories and laughs we wanted to share. Just no time to do it till now… Where to begin? I guess at the beginning would be a great place to start. Which beginning would that be? The first or second one? I can hear my daughter call out, “Best to do the second one, Mum. People don’t really want to read about, how I was born way early at 25 weeks; or your icky divorce!” Yes! Of course; that’s another whole story to tell! Let’s do the second one, then…
So, mid March 2012; Husband and I had booked a romantic (could call it that!) get-away for our fourth wedding anniversary. The girls were all sorted; and were staying with their delightful God Parents (you know who you are- D & A!). It was planned, so each would get to do something the other wanted to do. I remember hanging out, to go to the latest Art exhibition in the city; which we planned to do the first day. After checking into the hotel, we stepped out of the basement car-park lift to head to our car; only to find an older woman, had tripped and fallen badly onto hard concrete, right there in front of us. The woman was calling out in pain and couldn’t move; her family were shocked and didn’t know what to do. So, me being a nurse, went into that ‘nurse-mode’ and organised everyone; so that the woman was safe, comfortable as possible and an ambulance had been called. It was a stressful time for all involved; Husband had to remind me that the exhibition was on, and we were probably going to miss it. The family of the woman laughed and said, “We were on our way to that too, but not any more! You have to go and let us know how it was.” …
After over an hour supporting the woman, the ambulance arrived and we dashed to the venue. Weeks later, my mobile phone rang and I didn’t recognise the number (as wasn’t in my phone list). I answered the call and it was the dear woman, who had fallen at the hotel. I was really pleased the woman had rung, and to have spoken with her. I was curious how she had obtained my number (but pleased all the same). The woman said she had obtained my number from the hotel clerk, and remembered that I had given the clerk my number on departing the hotel. The woman went on to say, she had fractured her shoulder; and was due to have surgery the following week, when the swelling had dissipated. She then said how grateful she was to both Husband and I; I was so glad she had rung, finally knowing that she made it through was wonderful, while reassured my mind. I apologised we didn’t stay longer, but she was pleased that one of us did get to see the great Art exhibition after all! … I told Husband the woman had rung me; he smiled, then laughed, and said, “We put this unknown woman’s welfare ahead of our own enjoyment; we stayed until the ambulance arrived, nearly missing the exhibition closing time! I think the heavens above rewarded us in a very profound way!” After having three miscarriages in over two years, we conceived our Mister C that night!…
A dream come true! All fingers crossed, our first blog will go live exactly on Mister C’s b’day today; seven years after the much anticipated arrival, of our red head boy at, 2200hrs 21st November 2012 (pretty unique birth-date for Mister C- 21.11.12!).
