Hello… It’s me and Baby C.

Firstly, me and Mister C wish to say a big thank-you to everyone for helping to make our blog launch a big success! (Not sure how it’s fully measured yet, but we think it’s pretty good- 145 plus hits in nearly 2 days!). I have to say how proud we are of Mister C’s second big sister for her drawing contributions, they are spectacular my sweet flossy!

OK, Moving right along… Not going through every little detail of the pregnancy and birth of our little red head (don’t want to bore anyone now). All I can say is, it went smoothly (as much as possible), I did all the right things, but ate a bit too much! Mister C didn’t come too early either, just two and half weeks; not fifteen weeks like his big sister (thank-goodness, I knew we could cope with that just fine). Here are some stories from this time we wanted to share….

My husband has a deep interest in all the American Presidents (particularly JFK) and said, “Always remember my love, that around April 2012 late at night in bed, we were talking about names. I really liked JFK (naturally), but you wouldn’t have a bar of it. You joked well, why not Obama then instead?! (No offence those names are great, but not for our little red head….) We both liked Kennedy, but did not like the idea of ‘Ken’ for short, too close to Barbie and all….Then we liked Reagan, but could not agree on the spelling and just knew people would shorten it to ‘Ray’. We had both visited Dallas in Texas, USA years earlier, you said you knew a nice kid called Dallas, and what about that name? Not sure about that one, it is a place. You said what other presidents are there? The first name that came to mind was the Pres before Reagan— Carter, and when that name came out of my mouth, we both realised it sounded good. Not a common name, not weird, but just right.”

So, weeks after scouring baby names in books, online and talking about it (too much- I was over it!) we finally came up with a short list of boy’s names (we found out earlier on it was a boy- I knew it in my heart and lower back it was so). It is also notable that I was still at uni finishing my degree (mind you it took over six years to complete). I had a big assessment piece due on the Monday and managed to get it finished and submitted on time. Mind you my contractions started two days later, my body heaving a sigh of relief… My husband reminded me five days before the birth, that I was SO BIG! Baby was sitting very low, I had bad insomnia, SNORED and woke many times each night…

Again my husband reminded me, he was only able to work for a couple of hours on the day of the birth. I rang him from the specialists room after experiencing a few contractions at around 1 p.m. I recall my specialist saying while I was being examined, “I think it’s a good day to have a baby, let me give your cervix a tug!” I let out a deep breath and held back the swearing… I had to drive a half hour back home enduring painful (baby was still posterior then) eight minute contractions with my then nearly four year old second daughter (now a very good singer, but still maturing her high voice back then!) in the back singing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by “Queen” (yes my all time favourite band).

So, I met husband at home, I was still hungry and even though having contractions I had to grab a nutella sandwich (chocolate spread and delicious!) and we made it to the birth suite with a bit of time to spare. I recall my husband saying an hour later that he had to go pick up our older daughter from school and take them both to his Mums (hi and thanks again for helping!). Many hours later no sign of the husband, I rang him to say “the baby’s on it’s way soon, the Doctor has broken my waters half an hour ago, where are you?” I had been by myself for several hours, but at least it was calm and peaceful. The contractions got stronger, baby finally turned and then husband finally turned up. All I can say is the birth was PAINFUL! Had to use the gas this time, very different after declining all pain relief with my second. Three hours approx. later the red head baby boy was born at 10 p.m. My husband recalls, “Important to remember that around midnight on the night Baby C was born, I was really surprised by you coming out with, “YOU CHOOSE!” With regard to whether our boy should be named ‘Dallas’ or ‘Carter’. When push came to shove, Dallas just didn’t feel right, but we then, and since then have loved Carter (A.K.A. Mister C).

A word from Mister C:

Mister C wanted to say a big thank-you to his friends who joined him today for his b’day. Mister C said,” The best thing about today was spending time with my friends, they played with me and we had fun. I liked my new shirt; it didn’t itch at all. I got five ‘Lego’ boxes, some alien slime and other cool stuff. I have made three of the five boxes and have two more to go”…

Stay tuned…

Next blog all things babies and milestones (sounds exciting doesn’t it?). Have to catch up on the last few years first!…

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
