Hi from Mister C and Me…

Firstly, happy Mother’s Day to all the resilient, hard-working, courageous and kind women we know around us; we hope you had a wonderful day! I have to admit, I was truly spoilt this year. My dear sister, her husband and youngest daughter came down for the day (so wonderful); we had a lovely morning tea on the deck outside (there was some sun!) and then we went out to lunch at the local club nearby (yum-thank-you). Luckily, we had the morning tea platter, as the club was super busy, our meals arriving quite late (more than forty mins later), it couldn’t be helped, as the club was jam-packed with Mother’s Day families; the staff were very attentive and kind- thankyou! Mister C grumbled he was SO hungry; my sister had a small pack of lollies in her bag and the kids were able to share this while they waited (very patiently I must add). I was already grateful for this time together with my family, let alone all the lovely gifts I received from the girls and Mister C (I was overwhelmed); I even had the pleasure of receiving a gift from my own mother in law too! Luckily, I had remembered to send the required funds in an envelope to the school for Mister C, so he could choose a gift at the Mother’s Day stall (thanks heaps); Mister C gave me a lovely candle and a spectacular handmade card, with so many, ‘I love you so, so, so, so, much’ on it! (What more could a Mum want?).

After coming back from the club for our lovely lunch, my sister and our families spent a few lovely hours together, chatting about life and events and showed them around the house to see all the latest renos (had been over a year since they were able to come down). Time spent with special family is priceless, no number of things (as nice as they maybe) will ever replace this quality time together, creating happy memories together, forever. The girls went all out this year too (not sure why?), Widy made up a gorgeous pack of Mummy goodies from K-mart, where she is enjoying her current employment (so lovely) and gave it to me early Sunday am, before she went off to work (meeting us later at the club afterwards). I was speechless, I had never received anything like this before and the items must have cost quite a lot. As Widy walked off to finish getting ready, she did say, “I’m glad you like it, Mum; it did cost a bomb!” (Thanks so much angel!).

Flossy had been scheming something for a couple of weeks, and presented me later in the morning with a big (heavy) box wrapped up really nice. I felt bad as I didn’t get to open it until later, due to my busyness with getting the house ready for our special guests and bathing the doggies too. Flossy later called out, “C’mon, Mum, you need to open my gift, it’s a big surprise. I think you gonna like it!” It was sitting on the kitchen bench for a while, so I quickly got ready and Flossy helped me straighten my hair (thanks sweetheart) and then we opened her gift together. I had fun opening all the boxes (there were several, including the big ‘KFC’ family box from a few weeks ago), she had secretly kept some of the boxes to create the surprise. I finally opened the last box and there was a lovely travel coffee mug with three lovely magnetic photos of the kids wrapped up together. “Wow,” I cried, “It is a big surprise with all these boxes, I love it. Thanks so much my darling sweet girl, you put so much effort into this gift- thank-you!” Giving Flossy a big hug, I truly felt appreciated this day…

What a busy (but mostly fun) week we have had, with Flossy’s fourteenth birthday party at home on Friday night (can’t believe she’s now the grown-up fourteen!), the Fireworks event at our old primary school (was fun- but super cold) and my sister with family visit on Sunday (phew!). Mister C had his close friends tenth birthday celebration at the Fireworks night and then went to his friend’s place for his second ever sleepover (thanks E.F). It was heart-warming to see the boys having lots of fun; sadly, later in the evening, one of the friend’s became involved in an accident on the jumping castle and an older (teenager) boy kicked the friend in the face (it was terrible, not sure if it was an accident or not). I went into nurse mode and assisted the upset friend (who was also in some shock) to sit down, remain calm and help stop the bleeding (there was a lot). Luckily, the friend’s dad was there with his family and we were all able to help the situation, with some first aid from the local support staff at the event and eventually all watched the spectacular fireworks from the front of the school rooms under cover and safe (thanks GNPS for another fun night).

Sadly, we lost another of our sweet chook girls on Friday (of all the days-being Flossy’s birthday). I didn’t have the heart to tell Flossy, so quietly had a little tear on Husband’s shoulder and tried to push on with the rest of our day and celebrations later on with the family. Again, not knowing what really happened to ‘Cloudy’, she was lying on the chook shed floor, her neck bend strangely to the side. I had no answers to give the girls and Mister C. It is bitter-sweet, as the past week or so I have been diligently caring and focused on ‘Ginger’ (with Flossy’s help-thanks sweetheart) who has a broken leg, working hard to keep her safe and alive. To find one of the other girls had passed away, did feel overwhelming and helpless at times to me. I told Flossy, Mister C and Widy the following day and have promised Flossy to find and purchase some new chook girls as soon as possible (I hate having to buy eggs from the supermarket too- it’s just not the same). We say farewell ‘Cloudy’, RIP dear girl…

Here’s another word from Mister C, it sums the day up quite nicely… It was Mother’s Day and we had my dear sister and her family visit for the day from Sydney. While sitting outside sharing some yummy morning tea, Dad whispered something into Mister C’s ear, he nodded then ran off, a big grin across his face. Mister C came back up a few minutes later with a frown now on his face, “Dad, you scared me, you asked me to get Mummy’s gift from out under your bed. I couldn’t do that, as the thing tried to get me! It must be real, as it moved towards me!” Everyone including Dad looked puzzled, “Oh dear, my son, let’s go get Mummy’s gift together then? It is just what she wanted.” I looked more puzzled and said, “What could it possibly be, I already have many special gifts form the girls and Mister C and from my sister too (I had bought something for my sister as well). Do I deserve more?” We all laughed… Dad and Mister C came back outside a couple of minutes later, and both presented me with a real-life stuffed alligator! It had been in Granny’s house for many decades; Dad mentioned Granny had bought it back from the US in the sixties (when such an item was allowed back then) and had kept it in the garage the last few years. I found the creature when we were looking for something in the garage last time we visited, I did think how amazing it was and that it would look great in our garden. I jumped up in surprise, “Wow, did Granny let you have it love?” Dad nodded and replied, “Yes, Granny wanted you to have it!” I felt very honoured (thanks so much Granny), what a wonderful Mother’s Day surprise…

‘Cloudy’ chook sister RIP sweet girl May 2022…

A Word from Mister C…

Driving Mister C to school on the morning of Flossy’s birthday, Mister C signed and said, “Mummy, I don’t have anything to give Flossy for her birthday. Could I make her something- I could give her one of my ‘Lego’ creations?” I nodded and smiled up at Mister C through the rear-view mirror, while driving, “Oh, that might be nice, my son. I did get some things from the shops for Flossy. Let’s write a nice card and you can give her one of the items; we can even wrap them all up together too.” Mister C nodded and smiled, “Thanks, Mummy. I think turning fourteen is a big deal; Flossy has been good to me with playing outside together, she is a good sister to me!” …🎁

Stay tuned…

Guess what? This is our one hundred and thirteenth blog this week! It’s hard to believe I have written so many blogs, but not really, as I can recall all the late nights typing away in my little studio office. Thanks SO very much to my dear family and friends, I couldn’t do all this without your ongoing support and care. Thanks to all of our dedicated and special international readers- we love you! Keep on reading, there is so much more to come along… Our last book stall at Jamison Markets is this coming Sunday (13th), we hope to see you there. Come along for lots of good food, stall, wonderful atmosphere and yummy food cooking smells… 🤸‍♂️😉

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
