Hiya! A lot of rain we are having over these past few days-perhaps a little too much? All I can say is, I am so very pleased our new driveway drain is working and in place! No damage to our property (yet?). Our thoughts go out to the families and businesses, who have been caught up in the low-lying floods in North NSW and beyond. We are thinking of you all and hope the rains ease soon; so, the mammoth clean up can then begin (arrg!). Being in an elevated town area (we are SO very lucky); we have not had as much rain as some other areas (only about 30mls in our rain water gauge so far for us this evening), where some towns have had more than 300mls of rainfall! It is such an astronomical amount; where no amount of land could ever cope with such rainfall. Our hearts go out to everyone and we are all here to help as needed…
I did hear on the radio, while driving to my workplace on Friday (early) morning, that it was ‘Certified Nurses Day’. I had not heard much of this day; in Australia we usually celebrate the ‘International Nurses Day’ in mid-May. Anyhow (we do love to celebrate things, don’t we?), according to the internet (our information friend), the day is marked annually on the 19th of March (mainly in the in USA), to honour nurses and other health care providers. Me and Mister C wanted to send a BIG shout out to all of the nurses here in our local area, in Australia and beyond overseas, to rest of the communities across the world. We all how tough it has been living with Covid, the past year and currently; however, being a nurse myself, I know first-hand the underlying stress Covid has caused on our Healthcare workers; who have selflessly continued to care for our wonderful communities. We say a BIG thank-you from the bottom of our hearts, and wish you well over the coming months; with hope of a calmer profession, once the vaccination roll-outs are conducted and completed (we can only hope). In celebration of our nurses all around the world, here are a few quotes that touched my heart and Mister C too…
“To do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can, in spite of all we go through; it is good to be a nurse.” – Rawsi Williams
“Have a heart that never hardens, a temper that never tires, a touch that never hurts.” – Charles Dickens
“Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription. ” – Val Saintsbury
“Nurses are the heart of healthcare.” – Donna Wilk Cardillo … (https://www.ibtimes.com/certified-nurses-day-2021-)
As you may recall from our last blog, Husband and I were due to have a small getaway overnight, to celebrate our twelfth wedding anniversary, this weekend. I can report, Husband and I did get to go on our getaway after all! We were a bit hesitant to go with all the rains, and some flooding in certain areas; however, this was not near us (thankfully). We had prepared our dear neighbour (thanks H.W) for a little neighbourly support with any issues that may have popped up (hoping there was not going to be any!). Widy was well prepared, and had promised to keep the kids indoors to play some indoor games; while also build a great BIG cubby house in the lounge room (of course they were well stocked up with glow sticks and snacks supplied before we left). I can happily write, Husband and I had a wonderful time together, and it was a breath of fresh air (is always needed) to get away and spend some time together. Our hotel room was lovely (thank-you very much!) and Husband did spoil me with flowers (not the smelly kind) and some chocolates (what more could a girl need- right?). Of course, I returned the favour with his new engraved wedding band (after he lost his first one!) and some choc too. Due to our little trip away (and a bit of a sore head- from a little too much wine last night), the blog is a short one (apologies). Instead of 2018 stories, here is another recent word from Mister C…
Last week, Mister C came running into the kitchen and grabbed an apple. He turned and grinned, then said, “I’m making something about everyone! I will show you when it’s done. Don’t look till I say so!” … “Okay, my son,” I said, smiling; then I looked a little puzzled. About ten minutes later, Mister C came back into the kitchen and announced, “My creation is ready, everyone! Mum, Dad, come see?” We walked into the lounge room, and Mister C had made an ‘installation’ of his family on the lounge room wooden floor. “This is how it goes, Mummy,” Mister C said, smiling. “This number one page, is Dad. He is strong just like this metal chain!” There was a drawn picture of Dad with his name underneath, on a white piece of copy paper, with the chain sitting underneath. “The second one is Mummy, the great writer!” There was a second piece of paper next to the first, with a drawn image of me with my name on it; a pen was sitting just under the piece of paper. “The third one is Widy, she is always on her phone!” Mister C exclaimed. There was a third piece of paper next to mine, with a drawn picture of Widy and her name on it; under it was Mister C’s black controller.
The fourth piece of paper was for Flossy. Mister C then said, “This fourth one is Flossy; she is so smart, she can solve the cube if she wanted to!” There was another piece of white paper with a drawing of Flossy and her name on it; under the piece of paper was Mister C’s ‘Rubric’s Cube’. The fifth piece of paper was for Duggie (our wonder dog). Mister C smiled and the said, “This one is Duggie; he can eat a whole apple if he wanted to!” Again, there was a drawing of our wonder dog on the piece of paper and his name was written underneath; a shiny red apple was sitting above the paper, and a small bite had been taken out of it! “This final paper is for ‘Pearly’, our white budgie”, Mister C said, “Pearly is as a soft as my soft big bean-bag! He can share it with me anytime!” A final piece of paper was leaning next to Mister C’s grey bean-bag; again, a drawing of ‘Pearly’ and his name was on the paper. “Do you like my creation, Mummy?” Mister C said, his eyes shiny so brightly. “Yes, I love it, Mister C. Thanks for making all of this for us, we are very lucky!”… “Oh, I wanted to; I love my whole family SO much!”… “Wow!” said Dad; “I love it!” … “What about the chook girls?” Flossy called out, as she walked in from her room. “Oh, I forgot our funny girls; let me make some more!” Mister C ran off to the kitchen and grabbed some more apples…
A Word from Mister C…
Driving back from our rained-out coast trip at the end of last year; I called out in the car to everyone, “Let’s stop and go visit Fitzroy Falls on the way home? It’s not raining at present; it might be fun!” … “Yes!” Husband and the girls chorused. “We might be able to grab an ice-cream too, if the shop is open,” I replied, smiling. Mister C piped up from the back and said, “I ain’t going to no waterfall, Mummy! We’ve had enough water here, to last a whole Millennium and then some!” … All laughed. On the way home (we did get to see the wonderful waterfalls), Mister C declared, “There are now three things I am frightened of, Mummy; pickles (cucumbers), Plover birds and now waterfalls. I think pickles are gross and look really YUK too; and that was way too much water in those falls for me!” …
Stay tuned…
Thanks SO very much for reading our blog, we love it! As an update for our third book, I am just over half way with completing the illustrations. The first half are now in the hands of our wonderful format designer (thank-you L.F). More funny, quirky and zany things to chat about in 2018, then we can move onto 2019- yay! Stay safe and dry; night-night from Mister C… 😉
