Hey There! It’s Mister C And Me…

Hello everyone, we hope your last few weeks have been calm and steady, as we now head into my favourite time of the year, Spring! Not only are our numerous wild bird life friends going a bit crazy, with their nesting and having their new-born babies, our other wild animal friends like, ‘Bluey’ our sweet, blue-tongued lizard, is back to have her little baby soon, while our cute visiting frogs are out and about in the early evening. ‘Bluey’ lies peacefully with her enlarged abdomen in our storm water grates and pipes, soaking up some of the sunshine. Our special magpie family, ‘Monte’ and ‘Maggie’ had triplets early last month! It’s always a pleasure to watch these amazing baby birds grow up, feed and run around the property like little children. The girls and Mister C named the triplets, ‘Choc-chip, ‘Cookies’ and ‘Cream’ (how fitting?). ‘Monte’ has been relying on us a little more so and can be hand fed; both parents have been working really hard to keep up the feeding of their cute (but also noisy) babies. We try to only feed the birds some rolled oats and wild bird seed, while avoid using bread or other unhealthy sweet leftover foods.

Mister C has been not only excited for our magpie triplets and green tree frogs in the garden, but is also extremely excited for his birthday coming up mid-next month and it’s Halloween on Thursday (31st October- so very exciting!). Mister C kept nagging me over the past two weeks to take out the Halloween decorations; I finally agreed last Wednesday afternoon… Mister C was very helpful with pulling out the black plastic spiders from the sticky white webbing and shoving them into his pockets. We found the front door decoration and Mister C put that up. We then decorated a few windowsills with the webbing and Mister C shared some of the spiders and carefully put them inside the webbing, to make the decorations look really real. I purchased a cute ‘Jack- O’ Lantern’, with a bright flashing light inside the plastic pumpkin, from the local mall (I know, perhaps next year we can carve a real one). Mister C was happy with what we did and then went to try on his spooky ‘It’ costume (that his sister lent him) for the Halloween evening. I agreed that Mister C could go ‘Trick-or-treating’ this year with his friend group. He was super pleased he could attend, and I am reassured that Mister C has a nice friend group of (mostly) responsible kids. His sister may also go down with the group for a while, just to make sure the group stays safe. As most know, I am not a fan of children going to strangers’ places to ask for lollies (it does still sound a bit weird), but it is of course (generally) a safe town and we have to let them go eventually…

Some may know Mister C has had some issues with his eyesight and needed an updated eye-test. A long story short, Mister C now has to wear glasses full-time (just like his Dad, who wears both contacts and glasses). We picked up Mister C’s two pairs of ‘cool’ new glasses, just before the last school holidays and he spent the two weeks adjusting to wearing the glasses. I am super proud of Mister C and his efforts wearing the glasses and having this fairly big change in his world (well done my son!). Mister C later said, “Gee, I really like these new glasses, Mummy. I did really want a monocle though, but these ones will do for now. Maybe when I’m older, I can get one, they are quite cool, you know. I can actually see quite clearly now!” We had quite a few conversations about monocles over these weeks. Are you thinking, what was the purpose of these monocles anyway, as I did? Well, according to, Monocle Madness… “The monocle originally had a practical purpose: correcting eyesight with a single eye. However, when it was adopted by the elite, it became a sign of prestige, breeding, and a certain amount of eccentricity. It was more than just an optical aid; it became a statement piece that exuded intellectualism and luxury.” https://www.monoclemadness.co.uk/blogs/news/what-is-the-purpose-of-wearing-a-monocle

A Word From Mister C…

Mister C was sitting on the couch in the lounge room watching some TV after school (late-last year). I asked Mister C if he was looking forward to Halloween. Mister C looked up and said, “Yes, Mummy, I wish it was today, not tomorrow. But, Mummy, you must always check your Halloween lollies, as you don’t know what could be inside each of them.” I nodded my head and replied, “Oh, why is that my son?” Mister C smiled and replied, “You should cut all your lollies in half, so you can see a spooky house inside of them. A whole house could be in your lollies!” I scratched my head in wonder and then asked, “Why do you like Halloween, my son?” Mister C sat up and answered, “Because you get lollies, we can decorate our house with spiders and sticky webs and you can get dressed up all spooky like! I made a spooky black and white mask to wear, it’s gonna be spooky fun!” Both laughed…  🎃🦇

Another Word From Mister C…

TJ was in the kitchen making his morning coffee (mid-last year). Mister C came running into the room and gave his Dad a big morning hug. “Hi my son,” TJ smiled. How are you? Did you sleep okay, did you get lots of shut-eye?” Mister C smiled back and nodded ,”Hi, Dad. Yes, I had lots of good shut-eye.” Mister C stared at his Dad’s face and then touched his ever-growing beard and ginger goatee. “Wow, Dad, your beard and goatee is not sharp anymore. It feels like soft carpet! I love your new face. Mummy is right, it does make you look younger. It’s good for when you finally turn the big five-zero very soon! TJ laughed and replied, “Yes, Mummy is right. A change is as good as a new day, especially turning half a century soon- oh dear!” Both laughed…🧔‍♂️

Stay tuned…

Me and Mister C may attend the next Rotary Market with our fun bookstall coming up early November. It will have to depend on how my chronic pain and back pain is going and whether we can get a ride to and from the markets (and help to set up etc.), we shall let you know. I am still in the process of working through my CTP claim with my solicitor and his supportive team. I hope to attend an informal round table conference regarding the next steps in all of this, mid-next month, which will bring some much-needed clarity on the topic. As you may have seen and read, I have started a new section in the blog called, ‘Another Word From Mister C’. This will allow some catch up time on all of the wonderful words spoken by Mister C, and include some fun extra words into each blog. I will try to continue to post our blog at the end of each month (still on a Tuesday- hopefully). Hugs to all. Me and Mister C 💙

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
