Hello, we hope your last week has been a happy and productive one… Apologies for the delay in getting this week’s blog written and posted (not like me to be a bit tardy!); unfortunately, life has its way of taking over sometimes (particularly on the weekends!). We had a busy weekend with me (and some help from Flossy and Husband-thanks!) completing the finishing paint touches (and a whole lot of cleaning) on the old (and very long) deck and pergola (phew!). I had my trusty wrist support on the whole time; I can report, my wrist is somewhat better- I can now feel my fingers (that’s a good thing- I think?). My body did not like all the manoeuvring I had to do, to reach up to the highest parts of the pergola (I did miss a few spots- never mind); my body has had a ‘whole-body’ work out! Husband did comment, “You’re up too high Wife, be careful! I don’t want to have to peel you off the concrete ground, if you do fall!”…
Widy’s Grandparents came up for a visit on Sunday afternoon (was lovely), after returning Widy back from visiting her other family in ACT (hiya L & P. S- was so wonderful to catch up!). Later that night, Widy had complained of a very sore (and puss filled-yuk!) ear, after working a busy four-hour shift at ‘Maccas’; on top of her busy weekend in ACT (well done for getting through angel!). We ended up spending many hours in A&E (Emergency dept.) Monday morning (should have gone up Sunday night!), waiting for a review of the infected ear (thanks for the attention- but not the long wait!). Thankfully, she is now on oral abs and drops for her sore ear, along with the usual analgesics to help with the localised inflammation. I ran up to the chemist yesterday afternoon (thanks for the great service!), on top of dropping Husband off near the mall, to collect his car from being serviced; before he had to run to ACT for two nights- due to his usual work… (it all happens at once really?). This morning, Mister C complained of a headache and had a bit of cough overnight (oh, no?). I recall we both tossed and turned a bit during the night; so, I decided best to keep him home today too…
It’s our sweet Flossy’s thirteenth birthday (yes- I do feel old!) towards the end of the week (yay!). Flossy was born about a week early from her birth due-date, which was Mother’s Day (coming up the following week). All the kids were born early (Widy the earliest of course); I guess all our babies wanted to meet their eager parents and see the new world sooner… Flossy was a bit down last week, none of her friends could join her for a sleepover this time (unfortunate). I promised Flossy she could get her hair done and I made an appointment for the morning of her birthday (the only appointment available!); now she can have the day with me instead (nice to have a day off school sometimes?). We have some fun things organised, including going out to lunch together (so looking forward to it); I know Floss’s mood will pick up by her special day (we love you sweetheart).
Duggie, our sweet twelve-year-old chihuahua (wonder dog), was due for his teeth clean last week. I rang our Vet the day before (thanks for your wonderful care), as was a little worried about Duggie’s fast heart rate and cough he had recently developed. So, we arranged for a check-up, chest x-ray and bloods in the morning, before his booked teeth clean. Like the children (he is a big part of the family), I was naturally worried and tried to keep myself busy, until I had heard back from our Vet. Sadly, the news was not good, poor Duggie has an enlarged heart and pulmonary oedema (fluid around his lungs). The diagnosis made a lot of sense as to why he was acting differently; along with this strange cough he had developed mainly in the evening-time (and rounder face too). I later did some research (as we do), I read chihuahua’s are prone to Cardiopulmonary disease and enlarged hearts, and we already knew they are the longest living dogs (can live up to twenty years!); Duggie is otherwise in great condition for an older dog of the same age.
I rang Husband (my rock as always) and finally sobbed the news in between my sad tears. I took Flossy and Widy to pick the little guy up later that afternoon, having already preparing the girls for the somewhat not good news. Our Vet was wonderful (thanks so much!), explaining to all of us Duggie’s diagnosis and the medication he will need to stay on for life now. Difficult to pinpoint a prognosis, we are all hoping for another couple more years (fingers crossed) with our sweet guy; no more long walks up and down the hills around home for a while… So, we had to put off his booked teeth clean until this week (the only day I could do is on Flossy’s birthday- that’s okay!). Duggie had to start a course of abs (tricky trying to get a tablet into this guy), a week prior to the procedure (due to his unhappy heart); to ensure he was safe for the upcoming whiff of anaesthetic he is to have in the Vet hospital. Our fingers are all crossed Duggie pulls through, we love our little guy very much (life won’t be the same without him!) …
Anyway, this is exciting… we are now heading into stories from (you guessed it!) 2019 (2018 done and dusted-yay!). Let’s start 2019 in the next blog (sorry- my brain has gone on strike this afternoon).
Here’s an anecdote from Husband instead… “Yesterday, Mister C my six-year-old boy and I went to the local library, in the car before getting out, he leaned forward and pushed his face against mine. We looked in the rear-view mirror together and Mister C said, ‘Daddy, do we look the same?”-which is what I would have said to him, as a funny joke thing to do many times; it was so sweet”…🙃
A Word from Mister C…
Mister C came running upstairs and called out, “Mummy, there’s a big spider downstairs running along the carpet! You need to come quick and take it outside.” … “Oh, that’s not good, my son. Dad is down there, go see if he will get rid of it for you?” “Okay, Mummy,” he replied and ran back downstairs. Husband came up a few minutes later and commented, “Mister C saw a moderate sized spider on the carpet near the TV cabinet; he put pillows over it, to catch it! I lifted the pillows and squashed it under the mat- I got it good!” … Mister C came running back upstairs later and said, “Dad got the spider! I stopped it and the spider couldn’t see where it was going, then it did STOP!” … “Oh, at least the spider is gone now and wasn’t one of our ‘Huntsmen’, I sighed. “Now I know who’s been doing that to my mats!” I then frowned, looking at Husband; all laughing…
Stay tuned…
For newer silly and heart felt stories from 2019; we take a glorious trip away with the kids to North Stradbroke Island end of January. Husband has another medical check-up (blood test) and we work out he was taking too many supplements; we also experience some unfriendly antics from the neighbour above us, their dogs cause much grief with their constant barking, I approach the owners and feel sorry for the dogs. We look into getting retro-fit double glaze windows installed to the main part of the house; hoping to take away most of the dog barking noise… Thanks for your ongoing support by reading our blogs, hugs Me and Mister C….❣
I hope puppy dog stays well
Thanks for your comment; yes, we hope our Duggie the wonder dog will stay well on his new heart meds. Thankyou Me and Mister C…
So happy that Ms Flossy is turning 13! Happy too that she has a hair appointment that day (she has glorious thick dark blonde hair)! Fun times with Mum, who works very hard for the family. Hope dear Widdy feels better….
Hi Granny, many thanks for the lovely gift for Flossy, she had a wonderful day, thankyou! Happy Mother’s Day too… Hugs Me and Mister C… ❤
