Me And Mister C Are Here! …

Hi there… Wow! Mother Nature has surely been at her best these past two weeks, with very heavy rainfall and strong winds, most likely coming across from Antarctica and it’s cold oceans (as according to BOM). Our rainwater gauge showed eleven mls yesterday, nine the days before and twelve the week before; it has all added up to soggy grounds and more bright green grass coverings (that Husband has to mow again before Winter creeps in). Being one of the highest inland cities in NSW, we are lucky at times, where some of the rainfall does wash right over our community, unlike drenched Sydney and its surrounding communities. Stay safe everyone and be kind to each other…

Well, it has so far been a busy month for our family, with Mister C and Me attending our fabulous and fun book event at Braidwood Library on Wednesday 1st May. What a wonderful time we all had and thanks very much to Braidwood Library for having us and making us feel so welcome. Mister C loved hanging out at the fun new adventure park grounds near the library and main town area. Thanks Husband for driving Mister C and I there and back, his reward was having one or two of the delicious sausage rolls for lunch from the award winning ‘Braidwood Bakery’ (apart of ‘Trappers Bakery’ in town). Husband also took some much-needed time off work to re-evaluate his health, working career, our family commitments and my ongoing care and MVA claim requirements. After some discussions (and budgets), Husband has now dropped down to four days per week work, in order to continue to help the family and myself with my ongoing care and needs. I truly don’t know how we have made it through these past eighteen months, with Husband working full-time and having to drive me and the kids around everywhere (the mind boggles); having written this though, as a family we have to just get on with it, don’t we?

Our beautiful Flossy also turned sweet sixteen just over a week ago. Mister C reminded us all over tea one night during this time, that we were all in glorious Fiji this time last year and over Flossy’s fifteenth birthday too. Flossy moaned and said, “Well, what can top that for my birthday now, Mum?” We later chatted about some ideas for a gathering over her birthday, being her sixteenth it was a pretty special time in her life. Flossy originally wanted to spend the late afternoon at the lovely ‘Wetlands’ near Goulburn for a lazy picnic with some of her close friends, but Mother Nature had other ideas! In the end, we arranged a fun party at home with her closest friends, the Saturday night before her actual birthday. As I mentioned, the weather wasn’t crash hot, but we were at least able to set up the new firepit and kept the pit and firewood dry with a waterproof covering (from the BBQ) days prior to the party. Husband arranged two large, yum platters from a local supermarket and some snacks and drinks, while I made a delicious caramel mud cake for the girls too (what more could a girl need right?).

Widy agreed to help the girls light the pit and the girls kept it going for an hour and a half or so, while they chatted and roasted some big marshmallows together; the rain easing over this time, which was a relief. It was lovely to see Flossy let her hair down, while all the girls giggled the night away. Husband kindly took Mister C to the ACT to stay at Granny’s place for the night, so the girls, Widy and myself could all have a girls night. It was a very memorable night and warmed my heart, when the following evening, Flossy came up to me and gave me a big hug and thanked me (and Dad) for all that we did over the weekend, a small tea glistened in her eye and in mine too. Happy sweet sixteen our dear Flossy! We are so very proud of you. Always remember you are enough and never change; you are perfect just the way you are…

Australia celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday just passed (12th May). Me and Mister C wanted to also wish all the Mothers, foster parents and carers a happy Mother’s Day too (that includes you Ma and my dear sis too). As my family always understands, it can be a difficult day for me, with losing both my dear Nan, who’s birthday it would have been on the 13th May (always remembered) and my beautiful Oma, who passed away back in 2014 (dearly missed); while also not being close to my own mother (for personal reasons not to be discuss here). With Mother Nature sadly still pouring her heart out across the lands (rainfall), our plans changed a further time, from cooking homemade pizzas in our outdoor pizza oven to going out for tea to one of the happy local clubs instead. We agreed that Husband was able to go to ACT overnight on the Saturday night to catch up with friends and come back late Mother’s Day morning, so the girls, Mister C and I could spend some quality time together. The kids made a yum breakky consisting of chocolate croissants (so good) and made me a nice hot cup of ‘Chai’ tea. I was showered with some sweet homemade gifts and a few other lovely gifts. I was very spoilt- thank you my girls and Mister C! I truly don’t know what I would do without you all- but please remember, I am always here for you too.

It was also International Nurse’s Day last Sunday. I wanted to send a BIG shout out to all of my past and retired colleagues and friends, made through my previous thirty-year nursing career, working in the ACT and NSW in various roles and locations. I am so very proud of my roles and feel so honoured to have be able to give my knowledge and care with dedication to these communities over these years. A BIG thank you to all of the current nurses working in Australia and beyond, we appreciate all that you do! According to ICN, International Nurse’s Day (IND), ‘IND is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. ICN commemorates this important day each year with the production and distribution of the International Nurses’ Day (IND) resources and evidence.’ https://www.icn.ch/how-we-do-it/campaigns/international-nurses-day

A Word From Mister C…

Mister C was finishing his shower and was getting dressed before going to school in the morning (mid-last year). Mister C smiled as he dried his wet, orange mop of hair with his towel. “Gee, it’s good to be me, Mummy!” Mister C said as he jumped up and down while trying to dry his wet hair. I smiled and replied, “Oh, that’s good, my son. Why do you think that this morning?” Mister C giggled and said, “Well, I have cool, curly orange hair, I’m good at making stuff and I’m quite creative like you, Mummy.” Mister C took a deep breath and continued, “I’m also good with technology stuff, sometimes I listen and I give great hugs.” He took another breath and spun around in the bathroom, “I’m also good at massaging feet and hands, but never on Dad though! Finally, I’m also good at math and I like it too!” I smiled and tossed Mister C’s orange mop, “Wow, my son that’s a whole lot to like and I agree. I think it would be super great to be you!” Both giggled…   👣🧡

Stay tuned…

Sadly, the Rotary Markets last Saturday had to be cancelled due to the horrid weather and copious amounts of rain over last weekend. Me and Mister C were so looking forward to attending our bookstall; apologies to our book fans and market friends as well. We look forward to attending the next markets and our bookstall on Saturday 8th June 2024. On a more cheerful note, Me and Mister C will be attending our next author event at Bungendore Library on Thursday 13th June 2024. We can’t wait to go back to ‘Bungers’ on this day to see some familiar and new faces, as we share our first two books with everyone, while share some craft together too. Our designer is still working on the draft cover of our Me Poems poetry Book Three, we also can’t wait to share our next book very soon… 💖

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
