Hiya! We hope you and your loved ones are gearing up for the silly (and hot) season. Mister C excitedly told me that he only has fourteen more days of primary school to go till the end of the term and the year (where has the time gone?). Mister C also turned the terrific twelve last Thursday, while away with his Dad in sunny QLD (or not so sunny as told by the BOM), visiting his Uncle, Aunt, Cousins and their family (thanks for having Mister C!). I will admit, I was sad to have Mister C gone for the five (long) days, including his special birthday; but knew they would have a fun, memorable time. We had already agreed no party this year, and it would be better to save the birthday gathering for next year, when Mister C is in year seven in high school. I was able to speak to Mister C on his new mobile phone, we had given to him for his birthday; it was fun, yet quite strange texting my young son on the phone, I usually only texted the girls or other family members, never Mister C. I also kept myself as (slowly) busy as I was able to handle, washing Mister C’s bedding and changing his winter doona to the cooler summer one etc. I was able to spend some quality time with the girls (and their partners) while also having some much-needed rest and peace (and then it became too quiet, if you know what I mean?).
While Mister C was away, the girls and Lochy took me to the local pet shop to purchase two new ‘Zebra’ finches, to add to our other four somewhat lonely ‘Star’ and ‘Painted’ finch birdies. While in the pet shop, Widy and Lochy wondered around and met some cute other pets, including three magnificent ‘Macaw’ birds. Flossy went around with me; as I was choosing the finches with the pet shop owner (thanks heaps). Through all of the sweet (but loud) bird chattering, Flossy squealed and then called out, “Oh, can we please get a budgie Mum? They are so cute!” How could I resist this beautiful young lady and her big happy grin? Of course I agreed, how could I not want to take home another sweet birdy creature? So, we chose a sweet blue and white, male budgie and took the three birds safely home (illustrations to follow shortly on the website- I promise).
Sadly, over the next week our new budgie (the kids named ‘Prince Blue’) became unwell and passed away just over a week later in Flossy’s hands. Still unsure on what had happened, I rang the pet shop the following day and discussed the situation. The owner was apologetic and offered for us to pop down when ready to choose another budgie for half price. We thought that was a kind gesture; to this day, we still don’t know what happened to ‘Prince Blue’ (RIP), it was just his time to go to pet heaven. Two days later our new black dome bird cage arrived and I managed to put it together with some help from Widy. Flossy and I were ready to go back to the pet shop together and we chose a beautiful female budgie, white and pale blue with fawn-coloured spots on her face and back wings, we named ‘Cutie Pie’. So far she has settled in nicely, is enjoying her new surroundings and is even letting us stroke her chest. ‘Cutie Pie’ likes chirping to the dishwasher, washing machine and running tap water, otherwise she is fairly quiet (for the moment).
A Word From Mister C…
I called out from the kitchen area that I was going to feed the chook girls, mid-last year. I then called out, “If I don’t come back in thirty minutes, please call for the search party!” Mister C looked up from the lounge room and replied, “Okay, Mummy. Why do you need a search party? Is there something wrong with the girls?” I smiled and replied, “If I spend too long staring at our cheeky girls, I think I will need someone to save me. I have other things I will try to do today!” Mister C nodded. I trudged down to the chook area, my right shoulder protected with my back sling for support. I carefully went down the three steps, walked slowly down to the chook shed and opened the metal gate. The girls were all waiting patiently for their yums. I tipped the contents of the white bin into the grey feeding container and turned around to check the red and white-water container. I looked up and suddenly saw Mister C dressed in his favourite pyjamas, grinning while standing at the gate. “Hi, Mummy. I’m here. I’m your search party to help and save you!” I smiled and giggled, “Oh, thanks my good boy. You are such a good pyjama search party just for me!” Both giggled… 🩷
Another Word From Mister C…
Mister C complained of having a headache off and on for a few days. He also mentioned he sometimes had blurry vision and that he had one good eye and one bad eye. I asked Mister C to explain to me what this meant in the kitchen one morning, about three months ago. Mister C shrugged his shoulders and said, “Oh, I can see okay up front, but in the distance things are a bit blurry. When I close my right eye, I can see better. My left eye is the bad eye and my right eye is the good eye!” I nodded and frowned in concern. “I think you may need to have an eye test, my son. It’s been a long while since you last had a test done; I think you had just turned five.” Mister C stood up and frowned, “No, Mummy! I don’t want to have an eye test. What if I need to get glasses? What is this test anyway?” Giving Mister C a big hug I replied, “Well, the Optometrist will do a test on your eyes to see how they are going. The test won’t hurt, but you will need to still very still. I think you’d look very handsome with glasses. You could even get ones to match your orange mop!” Mister C nodded and grinned, “Oh, I know, Mummy. I could get a monocle, that would be super cool!” Both laughed… 🥸
Stay tuned…
Mister C and Me will definitely be attending the last Rotary markets for the year, on Saturday 14th December; this special pre-Christmas event is sure to be lots of fun for everyone. Come along to see and try all kinds of wonderful artisan homewares and foods. Don’t forget, my latest third poetry book, Me Poems author copies are still available; I’m only asking ten dollars to cover print costs. If you would like a copy and you are not in the Goulburn area, I am happy to send you a signed author copy free of postage, just let me know. This new book will surprise you as to how many emotions we can all really express, and is all beautifully displayed in this one special poetry book. Our other nine children’s and poetry books as author copies, are also still available. Stay cool and kind to one another. Hugs me and Mister C💞
