Hiya! It’s Me and Mister C…

Hello… What a sunny, glorious Spring day we had today (things are looking up!); it’s Father’s Day too (how could we ever forget?) … Me and Mister C, hope you all had a happy day, wherever you are today. Mister C and Me, send warm wishes and big smiles to all the Dad’s, Granddad’s and new Dad’s everywhere; on this day of celebration, appreciation and remembrance of our loved ones. A big shout out to our Granddad J.B (Husband’s dear Step-Dad); Mister C sends a big high five and lots of ‘president hugs’ your way… Father’s Day is (of course) generally a happy day; especially when it’s a Dad’s first Father’s Day, with a special newborn to celebrate the milestone.

For Husband and I (and many like us), our Dads are unfortunately not here with us, to spend some quality time together. It is a day of special memories and a little sadness (why are you not here?). For me personally, I feel eternal happiness (that 1000 crane wish really did work, Flossy!); however, something is always missing in my heart. It’s never the same without my dear Dad, and dearly missed Fix It Dad; not around to see their happy, smiling faces (forever loved). There is still so much I wanted to say and show my two Dads; but I guess I can do this in other ways, like writing in down (a poem for example), or tell them in my dreams instead. For loved ones who have been separated by the Covid situation; our thoughts are with you. Always know your loved ones are thinking about you; and will always understand the current situation (even if they don’t often say so) …

I asked Mister C what he thought of Father’s Day yesterday, while sitting together in the lounge room…. His reply was, “Oh, do you mean Dad’s Day, Mummy?” … “Yes, my son,” I said, smiling… “Well,” Mister C sighed; “It’s about giving Daddy, lots of hugs and presents I have made for him. I love giving Daddy many hugs on this day. I can spend the whole day doing things together with him; and give him heaps and heaps of ‘BIG hugs’! … “Wow! That sounds really good, my son. Can I have one of the BIG hugs, now please?” I said, reaching for the zany red-head … “Of course, Mummy!” Mister C said, laughing; “I have lots to give today.” …

As it’s Father’s Day… Here are some top ten funny ‘Dad jokes’ we wanted to share. Why not have a giggle with your Dad (or significant other) too? …

(courtesy of the internet: www.parents.com/fun/funniest-dad-jokes).

‘How does Darth Vader like his toast? On the dark side’. … (Mister C’s favourite! He loves anything Star Wars at present…).

‘Why did the maths problem look so sad? Because of all its problems.‘ … (Flossy likes this one- is very good at her times tables).

‘What do you call a fake noodle? An impasta.‘ … (Dad’s fav- he loves noodles) …

‘How do celebrities stay cool? They have lots of fans’. … (Widy had a laugh at this one).

‘Why did the coffee go to the police? It got mugged.‘ … (I love anything with coffee!)…

Okay, back to 2017 (I know, are we there yet?). It’s mid-March; Husband and I were looking forward to celebrating eight years (ten years together) of wedded bliss (ups and downs- but mostly blissful!). We had arranged to stay down the coast, with the girls and Mister C; at our other favourite place, Burrill Lake (near Ulladulla- South coast). As I may have mentioned in previous blogs, Husband and I were married at our favourite place- Mollymook beach. We always tried to go back every year, on, or around our anniversary with the family; as a kind of remembrance, of how far we had come along over the years, as a couple and later with children. I recall we had a great (much needed) relax away; ready for the exhausting onslaught of moving house -yet again!… Husband commented, “Eight years of wedded bliss; anniversary today! Wife and I both have jewellery for each other; but Wife has to work till 10.00 pm tonight, and I left home for work at 6.45 am this morning!”… I recall, we did eventually meet up; like ships passing in the dark of night together…

Through all the madness of finalising the house packing, and arrangements for the stairs installation at our forever home, along with booking the removalist (thank-you again); we did have some happy, heart-felt times in our old house with the girls and Mister C. Husband recalls, “Oh, my sweet four-year-old boy; he is slowly, but surely getting easier to look after. On Sunday, when I got home; he and Flossy were doing puzzles quietly together for about an hour. The kids hardly argued or carried on for the rest of the late arvo and evening. I thought it was a miracle!”…

As some of you may know, Husband is a sentimental kind of bloke, and loves reminiscing on old times. He is also a wise soul (older than his age- a lot we think!); of which Husband recalled this, “I am sure I have written something similar already. But, to my Wife and children, I love you! If I ever pass on; remember that just right now as I write this, I exist in your heart and your memories. Once I am gone, I will still be in your heart and in your memories… As a wise teacher said to me in high school, ‘Memories are all people are really’; what a true statement. If I did not remember you or Mummy; then tomorrow, you all would be strangers to me. So, people do exist in our minds; just because I am not physically here, does not ever change that!” (thanks Husband).

End of March, Mister C continued his obsession with ‘Paw Patrol’, eventually we were all singing the theme songs, while acting like one of the characters around the dining table at dinner time (pretty funny- I know!). Mister C was doing well at karate, and helping with some little ‘jobs’ at home; so we decided to give him a nice surprise, with tickets to see Paw Patrol live in concert in ACT (the girls got to see Hi-5 live in concert around the same age). I think I was more excited than Mister C (probably not); I recall we had some planning to do to get to the concert on time; while organise the girls, so they went to school first, then I would drive down (not forgetting my wallet or tickets-like I have done in the past!). I recall packing a change of clothes for Mister C, as he was still having the very occasional accident; and some snacks for the drive down and back (was a long way for a young four-year-old boy).

I recall, Mister C was fidgeting in his car seat in the back, but seemed happy within himself; watching a movie on his portable DVD player (a priceless device really). Nearly at the Canberra Theatre car-park (over an hour or more later), Mister C called out, “I need to go to the toilet, Mummy!” … I turned around and said, “Can you hang on, my son? There’s no toilet here in the car-park.” … “Okay, Mummy,” he then said. I thought to myself, it should be okay, we’ll be there in no time. I ran to pay for the parking, and slapped the ticket on the top of the car dash-board and called out, “Let’s go, my son!” I grabbed Mister C’s hand, but he didn’t move or walk with me. “What’s up, my son?” I said looking down at him… “Oh, Mummy”, Mister C said sadly, and then began to cry; “I couldn’t wait, Mummy;” and pointed to his bottom…

My heart sank for him, and I knew we were running out of time (the show was going to start very soon). Quick thinking, I picked Mister C up (with my trusty bag and new clothes) and just ran; I ran all the way to the theatre hall, and headed straight for the first toilet (parents’ room) I could find. Remaining very calm, while also soothing Mister C; we managed to change his clothing in a toilet cubicle (I vaguely remember throwing the whole lower garments and all, in a plastic bag and putting it in the nappy bin) and dashed straight to the theatre seating area. “Phew!” I laughed, while hugging Mister C. I then whispered, “We made it, and the show’s just about to begin!” To this day, I’ll never forget the look of wonder on Mister C’s face, when the concert began, and the characters from ‘Paw Patrol’ came out; it was all worth the madness to get there in the end…

A Word from Mister C…

“It’s Daddy’s Day tomorrow. I love my Daddy so much; more than any gold in the universe! I’m gonna make Daddy breakfast in bed tomorrow; I might need some help to make the coffee, and croissant with ham and cheese, he asked for! Daddy and I like to spend a lot of time together; we laugh about all things funny to us. We also like to drive around town; and spot the ‘ghost houses’ together! It’s a game we like to play; Daddy has to guess which house I would pick, that is actually haunted or not. The house has to look really old and a bit run down, to have a ghost live there in it!” …

Stay tuned…

We finally move house (without breaking our backs) and settle into our new environment; while learn how to care for five beautiful inherited chooks (and cheeky ‘Freddy’ our resident chook shed mouse). I endeavour to paint some feature walls (you know I love painting!) and do some repairs to the old wooden kitchen; while I think about how to tackle the new raw maple staircase (what would Opa do?). Mister C and the girls love our new yard area, to play and run around in (it really was worth the hard work after all!) …

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
