Hello… from a chilly Me and Mister C…

Wow! Brrr… what crazy weather we have been having lately, with so much wild winds and more rain- will it ever end? Winter is well and truly here (arrg – it’s only day seven!); it has surely hit us here like a huge cold blast all the way from glorious Antarctica! I have been closely watching our beloved tall gum trees, hoping we don’t lose even more branches, or heaven forbid a whole tree (now that would be disastrous). I had to laugh, we had another short but very loud storm last Sunday night; it woke Husband and I up at around 3am. I went upstairs to check on the old house (I was imagining the roof had caved in?!), Flossy was also awake in her room; we both looked at each other and walked out into the kitchen area; I looked out of the window and noticed strange white streaks coming down from the sky. The wind started blowing white snowflakes onto the patio and the outdoor setting and chairs. I cried out in wonder and called out to Mister C, who had earlier run downstairs and hopped into bed with us (was a bit worried about the storm). Mister C came running upstairs and called out in excitement too; Husband soon followed, as did Widy. We ended up spending about thirty minutes outside (rugged up in our dressing gowns and jackets) playing with the fresh falling snow on the patio (there was plenty). So, there we were, family of five, out on the balcony; even though it was bitterly cold and the winds were howling, it was such a magical sight to see the beautiful snow. Later that morning (normal time- not 3am), Mister C was a bit sad and complained that most of the snow had melted, but he then said, “I am happy that we got to see and play with the fresh snow falling in the middle of the night!”

It was Husband’s birthday last week. As I mentioned last blog, Husband’s birthday falls (always in Aussie land) on the first day of Winter (poor guy!); it’s a tricky birthday to do anything much outside- due to the cold. We had a nice evening together; Husband opened his gifts and we had a delicious Chinese home delivery dinner and a homemade white cake with candles too (Mister C’s request). I can report, this particular last forty-something birthday and first day of Winter has been the coldest ever! Usually, we have a few weeks to ease ourselves into the freezing weather, but not this time… To note, poor Husband has had some unwanted stress from some issues at work (we support you), while he also received some bad news regarding several (six to be exact!) speeding and traffic infringement notices from driving in the ACT (while commuting for work mainly). Unfortunately, Husband found out that the RTA (NSW) had not changed his forwarding address way back in 2015 (we had moved states earlier that year), therefore Husband had not received any of these notices. A long story short, Husband is now up for quite a hefty bill of over $2500 and wants to dispute a few of the notices (rightfully so). Over the weekend, we were able to look up some of the recorded images and videos for two of the notices, of which he was busted (he did do- sorry Husband!). We both looked at each other and laughed; Husband exclaimed, “For those two I am guilty as hell!” It was quite a comical situation poor Husband has now found himself in (in it together?). I’ll be sure to keep all posted with the pending outcomes…

Sadly, it has also been the house of sickness at our place (again). Poor Widy and Flossy both contracting bad head colds (RAT tests were negative-thankfully!), where both girls have spent some time at home (Widy was well enough to go back to work quickly). Poor Flossy remains unwell at present (resting up on the couch with her favourite soft blanket, watching many ‘Netflix episodes of ‘Kath and Kym’), hopefully she can get back to her normal activities with soccer training and school. Mister C has had a runny nose, while Husband and I have been fighting it off for several days, with a mild scratchy throat and headache (our tests are negative too!). I guess we have to expect some cold and flu bugs to lurking around our communities, it has been so bitterly cold at present. All I can say is, I have now used two full bottles of ‘antibug’ spray products (and counting); I can’t express my gratitude for the creation of such amazing products, which do truly work! I managed to stop Covid spreading through our house months ago with the same products (so great).

It was World Donut Day last Friday, 3rd June. Most people know Me and Mister C love donuts (any kind), and of course we had to celebrate this unique day, with Husband buying a yummy six pack of donuts to share together for our (late) afternoon tea. As a group of five, for our family there is always one left over in the pack, it’s usually a battle of the wits to grab the last delicious donut (Mister C usually wins with a zany story). According to the internet (so great), ‘This day has special significance, and it goes all the way back to the events of the First World War. There wasn’t a lot for our soldiers to cheer about when they risked life and limb on a daily basis, but National Donut Day came to pass, in part, due to the efforts of a doctor in the military in the first World War who sought to brighten the day of the wounded soldiers he worked on’… https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/doughnut-day/ 🍩🍩

A Word from Mister C…

“It’s Dad’s birthday today, Mummy!” Mister C declared, while getting dressed for school in the morning. “I will shout it out really loudly, so that Dad can hear me all the way to ACT and back!” Mister C then began to shout, “Happy birthday, Dad!” … Sighing, I replied, “Oh, my son, I don’t think Dad will hear you that far away; no matter how loud you shout.” Mister C grinned, “I bet Dad has supersonic hearing; he will be able to hear me and anything that’s more than one hundred kilometres away!” Laughing, I replied, “Maybe, my son. Dad will be home this evening, we can have a fun little party, with yummy Chinese food, white cake and gifts for Dad.” Mister C nodded, “Yes, Mummy. I love white cake with no icing. I will give Dad fifty pats on his back, for nearly turning half a century old!” Both giggled… 🎁

Stay tuned…

For some more chilly and silly stories from Mister C and our family… We look forward to attending the wonderful Queanbeyan Library over the coming weeks, to join some special children and families at the children’s story and craft time, held there on Mondays and Tuesdays; stay tuned for more details to come (a little bit exciting!)… Me and Mister C hope you stay warm and healthy over this cold Winter period (our side of the world). Remember to hydrate and nourish yourselves adequately, while rest and play well during this time; we all need our healthy bodies and minds to get through each and every day. Stay well; hugs Me and Mister C… 🙌

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
