Hellooo… It’s Me and Mister C…

Hiya! What beautiful weather we have been having lately? We hope you and your family have had a fun, but a peaceful (choc laden) Easter break these past few days. For other families and communities who celebrate other special events, such as the Greek Easter coming up next weekend, we hope you too have a wonderful celebration with loved ones and the weather continues to shine for you all too…

It was another very early morning start on Easter Sunday for Flossy and I, to set up our booked stall at the Jamison Markets in ACT (thanks again for having us!). Flossy braved the early start and ventured down with me again (thanks sweetheart); we packed the car the afternoon before to save time and we diligently straightened our hair the night before too! We did however encounter a few issues on our early morning travels; the first being, I had forgotten my mobile phone (left it on the kitchen counter charging), and had to turn back after only driving for about eight minutes (don’t know how I remembered). We then encountered some extremely thick fog most of the way there, especially around ‘Lake George’, a vast lake area in the middle of nowhere. We decided to skip the early morning sunrise viewing- mainly due to the fog- couldn’t really see very much! About twenty minutes later, I saw something out of the corner of my eye on the road in front of us, it came up really quickly as I couldn’t see more than a metre in front (if that), the car lifted up and banged (and crunched) over something very large and solid under the car and two side tyres- it was an already deceased ‘roo’ (kangaroo) lying in the middle of both lanes on the road…

Flossy yelped and called out, “What was that, Mummy?” I also yelped at the same time and replied, sighing, “Oh, no! Was that a large ‘roo’, we just drove over?” My hand quickly touched my forehead in worry, as the car abruptly jumped up and down again; the sound of the car rolling over the animal’s body was horrible (something I won’t forget for a long time- RIP dear ‘roo’). Things could have been a lot worse; as Flossy commented while I was driving, we could have actually hit the poor ‘roo’ and left my phone at home, without realising I didn’t have the phone with me at all! The day did improve, aside for the horrid smell that was coming out from underneath my car (remains of the poor ‘roo’ I think?); I decided to move my car away from the stalls and the organiser agreed with me to move it. The weather improved and the sun began to shine, as we met some wonderful people and families, handing out some colourful balloons and some of our stickers to some local kids for Easter (a few books sold too!). We have one more booked stall for the middle of next month – May; hopefully the weather will continue to stay kind to us (with no rain and less fog please?). To note, we did take my car through the local car wash on our way back home.

We were fortunate to catch up with some dear family and friends on Easter Sunday; after packing up our stall and meeting Husband, Widy and Mister C (who drove down with Widy later), we stopped into the Jamison Shopping centre and bought a few items and used the loo too. We then drove on to Granny’s place, having a lovely afternoon relaxing outside on the lovely patio, chatting and devouring some yummy snacks and cool drinks (that is what it’s all about!). Mister C loved chatting with his G-Dad about all things boys and had some special hugs for Granny too (thanks for having us over and for the Easter treats!). Widy was also able to catch up with her Dad and their family for a few hours; so great she is now driving- very well too. Mister C did quietly ask for the (beautifully hand crafted) porcelain doll that sits in the spare room, to be put away before our visit (a bit too scary for some reason?!), of which had been stored away safely in the cupboard (thanks Granny).

Now into week two of the school hols, how are you all getting along at home together? The girls really wanted to go away, like most of their friends have done so this holiday time. With our work commitments at present (and pets to care for too), we were not able to go away this time; the kids did understand, but it is hard wanting something else as well. We promised the kids that we would book a special surprise trip away in the next coming months, to coincide with celebrating Widy’s upcoming special eighteenth birthday coming up in August (sounds exciting?).

A bit of a shortened version of the blog this week; mainly due to school hols and juggling work and the family, here is another word from Mister C instead…

Walking our sweet doggies with Mister C last Friday, I looked up towards the sun and said, I can’t believe it’s Good Friday this morning, my son. Where has the time gone?” Holding onto Rhetti’s dog lead tightly, Mister C nodded and replied, “I’m not sure, Mummy; maybe the time flew away with the clouds?” He giggled, then continued, “Well, yes; but I thought it was a good Friday, every Friday?” Both giggled… 🤸‍♂️

A Word from Mister C…

Moving some bedroom furniture around downstairs in our bedroom mid-last year, during all our house renos; I said to Husband, “We need to move the tallboy over to the other side of the room too, Love, please?” Husband nodded and replied, “Yes, love,” and started to get his shoes on to help move the items. Mister C came jumping into the room and said, Hi, Mummy. I’m really a tall boy, too; see how tall I am now!” We all laughed, I then gave Mister C a big squeezy hug and we kept on moving furniture around… 🕴

Stay tuned…

For lots more silly stories, as we head into cooler weather and Winter time very soon (Oooh!). I had a wonderful meeting with another book store owner in ACT, approximately two weeks ago before the Book Fest event weekend. I was thrilled that the store owner liked our Mister C books and has agreed to firstly take ten books on consignment (payment after the book is sold). Jumping for joy, I told Flossy all about the meeting (who was waiting nervously in the car for me to tell her the news) and then rang Husband straight afterwards; when we got home, I then told Widy and Mister C, who were all very thrilled! Check out the images of both stores where our books are now shelved at, below on the right side of the blog widgets (so great- thanks very much!). 📚

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
