Hola! It’s Mister C and Me…

Hola! … It’s a Spanish hello this week, from the magnificent country of Spain. Why Spain do you ask? Well, Husband, Flossy and I have been learning Spanish (yes I know) for past few months (me only forty-eight days), through a neat phone app that Flossy found last year. I have to say, this language app has been surprisingly easy to use and it has some good incentive rewards to keep us all learning and going. It has been fun to pass some time away (who knows I still have plenty at present) and plan learning goals called ‘streaks’ once or twice a day (if we’re feeling lucky!). I am no way fluent in this language (yet), Husband reckons it will be at least another hundred app lessons until then! Husband and I try to converse with each other, at least a few words and simple sentences each day. I have to laugh, because sometimes we don’t understand each other and have to remind one another of the words!

One time, Widy came into the kitchen while husband and I were trying to speak Spanish, in between getting tea ready (is our usual time to chat Spanish). Widy laughed and said, “What are you doing, Mum?” I laughed and replied back with what Dad and I were trying to do. Widy’s response was, “You just need to go watch a few ‘Dora’ movies, Mum. Then you’ll get the hang of Spanish, just like Flossy and I did!” Flossy is a natural, I think, particularly after the numerous ‘Dora the Explorer’ movies both the girls loved to watch. Flossy has become quite fluent in both speaking and writing Spanish, I have seen a few sentences written in the back of her some of her schoolbooks (perhaps a swear word or too huh?). There’s hope for Husband and I yet, with a dream for us to all travel across to Spain, to explore this wonderful country and speak some good Spanish along the way. So far Husband needs to find his way around Madrid with only, ‘I need my suitcase’, ‘One ticket to Barcelona’ and ‘Salad with tomato please’.

Me and Mister C wanted to wish all of family, friends and our readers a very happy Easter (for those who celebrate this festivity). We hope you all had a wonderful (extra) long weekend, filled with lots of indulgent yummy Easter chocs and festivities, while also spending quality time with your loved ones. Several weeks ago, we all wound up discussing attending church, Husband and he said, “Well, why not!” (it had been quite a long time). Widy shook her head and said, “Not for me, I’ve been to many SRE sessions at school, I’m done for now!” Mister C got wind of the idea, jumped over the couch and said, “Ooh, will that get us closer to the Maker, Dad, if we go to church?” Dad giggled and nodded, we then agreed to go to the delightful Easter Saturday evening service, at the glorious St Saviour’s Church here in our town (plenty of lovely churches to choose from). Husband commented that is was one of the most interesting services he had been to (thanks so much for having us!).

We were also fortunate to have Granny and G-Dad come up on Easter Sunday for morning tea and have lunch out together to one of our local clubs (thanks for joining us Ma and G-Dad- we love you both very much!). I have to say, it was a very busy, but fun-filled day, where we were also fortunate to have Widy stay home for the entire long weekend (I know). Widy’s boyfriend (Hiya L.T) was able to come over and join us for lunch at the club, later have tea and drinks together, while he also helped Mister C cook some ‘S’mores‘ (marshmallows, ‘Arrowroot’ biscuits and ‘Rocky road’ choc bits- sounds delicious right?) over our firepit later that evening (we were all quite tired the following Easter Monday, with few adult sore heads too), thanks for joining us! I enjoyed the weekend, but my body is never happy after such events (a lot of chronic pain), particularly when it is warm one day and quite cool the next…

Well, this is our one hundred and eightieth blog this week! It is a little difficult to recall way back to early 2019, when I was chatting with Husband about starting up a blog and website, to reflect our stories, ideas and illustration work. Who would have thought after all these years later, our site would still be going so strong (and international too!). Here’s to many more years of writing, illustration and book work to be created over the next how many years (fingers crossed!). Thank you to all of our avid readers and subscribers for continuing to read our blogs and follow our website, it sure does mean so much to Me and Mister C. We also enjoy connecting with other budding writers and their families. I had the pleasure of connecting with a budding writer and her mother these past two weeks. It is always my pleasure to answer any questions about writing, illustration work, book production and publication ideas, as best I can. Knowledge brings power to any person, and knowledge should be accessible for all to read, hear, ask, and understand. Any ideas, questions or thoughts please direct to my email address: ingledlie@gmail.com. I’ll be happy to help as best I possibly can! 😊

I thought this week, it could be Flossy’s turn to have her’ Flossy Funny’ stories read. Our main image for this week’s blog, is a portrait of Flossy’s favourite comedian and actress, Liza Koshy. Flossy drew this piece (and another one) as a part of her year ten visual arts assessment and portfolio (fabulous don’t you think?). So, here’s not one, but two, ‘Flossy’s Funny’ anecdotes… Enjoy!

Dad was driving us all down to the ACT to visit Granny and G-Dad for the afternoon, for an early Christmas lunch get-together (late last year). Sitting in the backseat, Flossy asked who was going for the lunch. Dad replied, “It’s all of us, Granny, G-Dad, his daughter, her family and possibly her Mother-In-Law as well.” Flossy nodded and replied, “Does this person live with G-Dad’s daughter?” Dad replied, “Oh, no. I think this person lives in an assisted living place near the family. This person is coming out for the day, I think.” I nodded and said, “Yes love. I think that is everyone who is going along today for our early Christmas lunch. It should be a nice day out with everyone.” Flossy nodded and then replied, “Is this person living in a nursing home? I didn’t think they were let out once they went in there! I didn’t think they’d be allowed out?!” All giggled a little bit… (please, no disrespect intended here)… 🤭

Husband and I bought the weekly groceries from ‘Aldi’ and had arrived home to unpack the bags for the car boot. Husband quickly brought most of the bags into the kitchen, before taking me to my medical appointment that was soon booked for that afternoon. Husband called out to Flossy to please put the cold items in the fridge and some other items away, before we left. On return after my appointment, Flossy had packed away all of the groceries. I smiled and called out, “Thanks for your help sweetheart, it’s very much appreciated!” I went to reach for a tissue out of the sliver plated tissue box holder, and realised the actual tissue box was missing. I burst out laughing when I realised. Flossy came into the kitchen smiling and said, “What’s so funny, Mum?” I tried to stop giggling and took a breath to say, “Where’s the tissue box, love?” Flossy looked at the metal tissue box holder and realised what she had needlessly done. Flossy replied smiling, “Well, you did ask me to unpack all of the groceries. I even unpacked the tissue box for you too!” … All laughed. 🧻

A Word From Mister C…

Mister C agreed to have his hair trimmed (not cut) at the mall, after a medical appointment earlier that day (mid-last year). Mister C explained in some detail to the nice barber to not cut much off as he was growing it out. The barber nodded and said it would be better to style the top, if he thinned out some of Mister C’s thick orange hair. Mister C nodded his head, the barber worked to create a great style that Mister C was happy with. When home, Mister C jumped straight in the shower, to wash off the excess hair. While in the shower, Mister C called out, “Mummy, my hair is falling out!” I replied through the bathroom door, the barber mentioned that this would happen. Mister called out, “Okay,” and finished having his shower. Sitting on the sofa afterwards, Mister C looked glum. He then moaned, “I don’t want to get my hair cut ever again, Mummy. There’s almost no hair left!” Sighing, Mister C continued, “I’m gonna wait another five years before having another haircut, and then we’ll see how long my hair is then!”…    💇✂️

Stay tuned…

With the busyness of the Easter holiday and festivities over, I can now concentrate on the next storyboard and finishing off the remaining one to two illustrations for our third Me Poems poetry book, before the school holidays start in about a week and a half (arrg). Me and Mister C are looking forward to the next Rotary Markets and our fun bookstall coming up on the 13th April 2024. We are also honoured to have been invited to attend the lovely Braidwood Library Storytime coming up on Wednesday 1st May 2024 (more info to be posted soon). Have a happy week. Hugs Me and Mister C…🏵️

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
