Hiya! Me and Mister C here…

Hi there… With us here in sunny NSW heading full speed towards winter, Me and Mister C hope you and your family are staying warm, well and safe. We have had some much-needed rain overnight in our part of the globe (about seven mls); it was lovely to hear the rain tinkling on our metal roof, fingers crossed the old roof continues to hold tight. Our old girl (what we named our house) turned a big sixty-two years old recently, Husband had to get on the roof (again) and seal up a small area with ‘storm silicone’ (love that stuff!) where two screws had come loose where the original firebox was upstairs (was sadly removed prior to us purchasing the property back in 2017)- we had a tiny leak above the range hood (small water stain). The old girl is holding fairly well, considering the weather extremes we have all had over the past few years. Me and Mister C are also crossing our fingers that families and people in surrounding communities without adequate housing, have been able to find safe and clean accommodation over these months, particularly with the housing shortages that have sadly been going on. Winter is now on its way and we sure hope everyone has a warm and dry place to stay before it gets much, much colder…

Well, school is now back! Flossy was quite excited to head back this morning, which was great to see. We are super proud of our beautiful second daughter, who went for her first job interview a month or so back and then got her first job! Flossy starts her first shift tomorrow afternoon (at a local retail outlet store) and is a bit nervous, but excited all at the same time (good luck sweet girl, we know you are ready for this next milestone in your life). Poor Mister C has been unwell since mid-last week. it is unlike him to stay in bed later in the morning, he is usually our early-bird getting up before 07:00 am most mornings, but not this past week. He went to the holiday program at the local PCYC earlier in the week and then developed a high temperature a few days later, unfortunately, while we were away (lucky we always pack some Ibuprofen and Panadol).

We managed to take Flossy and Mister C on a short overnight trip to the ACT mid-last week, we stayed in a lovely two-bedroom apartment and enjoyed a night out in the town, with our dear old friend (hiya B.K.- we love you!). We were all able to enjoy some quality time together and go out, before Mister C became noticeably more unwell. There was unfortunately a twenty-minute episode where our hotel room key did not work though! Sadly, no school for Mister C today, another pyjama day indoors watching TV and snuggling up in his soft, grey beanbag and weighted blanket as he fully recovers (sounds pretty good huh?).

Back on January 12th, 2024, it was Hug A Ginger Day (or Kiss A Ginger Day). I noticed this event came up on social media and I commented to Mister C, who was watching ‘You-Tube’ on my laptop (as his was broken) in the study with me. Mister C turned around and said, “Well, that’s me, Mummy, I’m a ginger red-head for sure! You’ll have to give me lots of hugs- wow!” I had to google this marked day and it revealed according to awarenessdays.com, ‘Hug (Kiss) A Ginger Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated on January 12th each year. It’s a light-hearted day dedicated to appreciating and celebrating individuals with red hair, often referred to as “gingers.” This day encourages people to show love and affection to their red-haired friends and family members. Hug (Kiss) A Ginger Day 2024 is a day to celebrate and embrace individuals with red hair. It’s a fun and playful holiday that challenges stereotypes and encourages people to appreciate the uniqueness of red hair.’ There is also a World Redhead Day coming up on 26th May 2024 and a National Redhead Day coming up on 5th November 2024, where, ‘redheads can celebrate their locks to the fullest’- wow, lots more hugs for both redhead Husband with his ginger beard (who is now a dark auburn colour in his later years) and Mister C there! https://www.awarenessdays.com/awareness-days-calendar/kiss-a-ginger-day-2024/

As I am trying to stay warm with my ongoing chronic pain and mobility issues, while looking after Mister C and endeavouring to get ready for our author event tomorrow (with help from Husband- our rock), here is another Word From Mister C instead. Enjoy…

In the kitchen attempting to clean up some of the dishes from lunchtime, one of the kids walked in and I briefly looked up and then saw Mister C from the corner of my eye. For just an instant, I didn’t recognise Mister C, with him having had a big chop-chop earlier that morning (hair cut). It was quite a big change for Mister C, his long red bangs were no longer hanging in his face and over his clear green eyes. I smiled and said, “Gee, my son. I didn’t recognise you for a second!” Mister C giggled and flicked his remaining bangs back over his head (as Widy’s boyfriend also does with his thick, curly red hair too), and replied, “I didn’t recognise myself either, Mummy!” Both giggled. Our zany Mister C is growing up… 🧡

A Word From Mister C …

Mister C was super excited to have his bestie over after school on Friday for a sleepover and to go to the show the next day (early last year). The boys had a fun time and enjoyed their time at the show, going on rides and getting a show bag or two as well. The boys stayed up later than usual and both were tired from the busy day at the show. When home later that afternoon, Mister C feel asleep on his soft beanbag downstairs in the rumpus room. I went downstairs to get something and Mister C woke up. I smiled and said, “Did you have fun today with your bestie, my son?” Mister C nodded and replied, “Of course, Mummy. I loved having my bestie over. I loved playing on the trampoline and wrestling together. I won a few and my bestie won a few too! I didn’t think we would both fit in my double bed, but we fitted good. I now look forward to having my bed all to myself again. I‘m tired, but a happy kind of tired.” … 🛌🏿

Stay tuned…

Exciting news, our designer is now working on the new cover draft of my third Me Poems poetry book. I look forward to sharing an image or two of the cover shortly…💖Me and Mister C are super excited to be attending our author event at the fabulous Braidwood Library on Wednesday 01.05.24 (that’s tomorrow!). We have not been back to the library since my horrid car accident in late 2022; we are honoured to have been able to reschedule another event, be it over eighteen months later. We are now super ready (albeit with my trusty walking stick) and look forward to seeing some new and old faces at the Storytime event. Thanks as always to Husband for driving us and for helping to set up, while also to Mister C for helping too. Mister C has been unwell for most of the second week of the school holidays (he is much brighter), so I thank him for agreeing to come along for the event as well. Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
