Hiya! It’s Mister C and Me…

Hello everyone! Wow, what a very cold start we had in our town this morning, the weather gauge reading more than minus six Degrees Celsius (nearly minus seven!). This temperature is by far the coldest morning we have experienced in many years (great!?); we hope this is not going to become a regular temperature thing in the future! I bet we might see some more thicker snowfall in the coming weeks or even days too (so unusual for us). Stay warm and well everyone, nearly half way through the Winter (almost!) …

I am (very) happy to report, Flossy is feeling much better and made it back to school yesterday, for the last week of the term (yay!); just in time for her assignment and exams that are due; along with another teacher’s strike due for Thursday, of which the girls and Mister C will have to stay home for again. I have to add, this illness is probably one of the sickest Husband and I have seen Flossy experience; it was touch and go, but with good rest, love and care, medicines and oral abs she has made it through to the other side (so thankful). Husband recalls, at one point Flossy thought the cough mixture was so disgusting that she compared it to tasting petrol! Still on the recovery road, Flossy will need to take better care of herself now (must eat her vegetables and some red meat too), as the residual long Covid issues will be around for some time yet (well done for getting through sweet girl- we love you!).

I feel very sorry for the communities and families who live around Sydney this week. The reported industrial action coverage on media outlets, of the looming strikes relating to railway commuting (trains), some hospitals and their staff, along with more strike action for most NSW teachers and some private education schools is worrying. I know this is a touchy topic at present, with many differing opinions and views being expressed around these communities; however, I do think that having all these strikes from different sectors all in one week, is really quite inconsiderate to everyone, particularly families, who are trying to get through the rest of this last week of a busy school term (glad to not live there at present?). All that written, I guess the aim with such industrial actions are to cause as much disruption as possible, but is this going a bit too far? (What do you think?) We are thinking of everyone in Sydney and surrounding areas of NSW this week. We all need to maintain patience and understanding towards others; as individuals, we all have many things going on and respect is paramount this week.

All I can write at present, is how grateful we are to have a good working healthcare system, with a working ‘Medicare’, knowledgeable and accessible GP’s, along with our supportive (but at times costly) health fund. Unfortunately, Mister C and I both recently broke a back tooth each (on separate days-but still a bit uncanny); as a result, we both had a trip to see our local dentist yesterday (thanks very much). It did however take over two weeks to get in to see our busy dentist (understandably); where we both have been eating soft foods and taking it easy with chewing on that particular side of our mouths where the broken teeth are (I did lose a kilogram or so- which I guess is a little bonus?). Mister C groaned about not being able to bite into one of his juicy red apples. I advised him not to do this, as it may affect the broken tooth and cause some discomfort too; thank goodness for yoghurt, ice-cream, bananas, mash potato and soup- lots of soup at present!

I managed to make an appointment to see our friendly dentist mid-morning and for Mister C straight after school. My appointment went as well as could be expected (needle and all); my tooth issue should be rectified with a new porcelain crown, to be made and fitted in the next coming weeks. I managed to eat something soft (yoghurt again) before I had to pick up Mister C from school and then go to his appointment. In the car while driving back to the dentist, Mister C did look visibly nervous, I tried to take his mind off the looming dental work. Despite all of Dad’s attempts to alleviate Mister C’s worries the night before; I also discussed the crown that was needed for my tooth and Mister C replied, “Oh, Mummy is that like a real crown, like the Queen’s?” I laughed and replied, “No, my son, it’s like the porcelain in toilet bowls.” Mister C giggled and replied, So, is that like the porcelain from our toilet! Gee, how will the dentist come over and take out the porcelain from our toilet? The dentist must be very creative!” We both laughed together. I spoke with Mister C about being brave, if he had to have a needle in his gum to numb the area, so the dentist could fix his broken tooth. I then said, “There’s a special surprise from both Dad and I under your pillow, for when you get home after the appointment.” Mister C replied, ‘Yes, thanks, Mummy; I will be as brave as you were for your tooth. I will also be as brave as ‘Iron Man’ on one of his epic battles; I really want this tooth fixed, so I can eat my juicy red apples again!”

To finish this week’s blog, I though another word from Mister C might be fitting to boost our spirits up a bit…

Mister C was lying on the grey carpet rug on the floor, near the gas wall heater in the lounge room (last year). ‘Duggie’, our wonder dog (RIP) walked into the room, looking for something else to eat (no doubt) and saw Mister C lying there. ‘Duggie’ walked over to Mister C and sat next to him. Mister C patted ‘Duggie’ on the head and said, “Oh, hi, ‘Duggie’. Do you know, Mummy, I think I’m just like ‘Duggie’! I have a similar hair colour, pointy big ears, four limbs and a wild imagination- just like ‘Duggie’!” I giggled and replied, “Oh, really, my son. Do you think you’re a doggie then?” Mister C nodded, “Well, ‘Duggie’ can understand a lot of what we say- mostly. He can even call out ‘hello’ in his doggy voice, when we get home each day. I love our wonder dog, Mummy!” Both giggled…

A Word from Mister C…

Sitting in the lounge room with Mister C having afternoon tea; I was eating a piece of juicy red apple, that I had cut off for Mister C. I bit into the piece and felt something hard crunch in my mouth, I then spat the piece of apple out into my hand (yuk!) and realised that part of my back tooth had broken off! I looked worried and Mister C sat up and said, “What’s wrong, Mummy? Are you okay?” I moaned, sighed and then replied, “Well, I think part of my back tooth has just broken off!” Mister C also sighed, then jumped up and gave me a big hug, “I’m sorry, Mummy. I wish I could give you one of mine; you would be able to chew the yum apple then.” I smiled back and gave Mister C a big squeezy hug back. “Thanks, my son. I love you too! It looks like both you and me will need an urgent dentist appointment now!” Mister C nodded, “I love you more than life itself, Mummy! Everyone should always love you!” …  🦷

Stay tuned…

It’s the school holidays next week (yay!), we look forward to a few pyjama days together. Husband and I manage to book a surprise trip away with the girls and Mister C, for the week after the holidays (was mostly booked out) as a nice event for all of us to fly on an aeroplane again and to also celebrate Widy turning the big eighteen. The girls and Mister C keep trying to catch Husband or I out and pry out information as to where we are going (all good things come to those who wait!). To note: our Queanbeyan Library event is now one the one day booked on Wednesday 3rd August; due to organisational issues we will be doing this day only for now- we look forward to the fun event and hope to see some familiar faces there too. Keep smiling, hugs Mister C… 🙌

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
