Neih hou… From Me and Mister C…

We say Neih hou, hello in Cantonese from the unique city of Hong Kong. Located to the east of the Pearl River (Zhu Jiang) estuary on the south coast of China; Hong Kong is an interesting place and has been one of our highest users to our blog site this month- thanks! There are many wonderful things to do in Hong Kong, such as attending a night of adventure with ‘NFT’ artist Derry Ainsworth in Kowloon City, uncovering hidden gems like a local community or local people, soak up iconic sights, sample local cuisine or even shop ’til you drop! According to the internet (yay!), ‘Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China that has, until recently, largely been free to manage its own affairs based on “one country, two systems,” a national unification policy developed by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s.’ https://www.britannica.com/place/Hong-Kong https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_US/offers/collection/highlights-of-hong-kong.html

Sadly, we lost our beautiful ‘Ginger Girl’ chook sister last week. I am so proud of how well she coped and made it through with her leg injury and survived her health issue (with our help); her broken leg had nearly recovered, but unfortunately, ‘Ginger Girl’ didn’t have much strength in this leg to get up onto the higher perches at night; therefore, her leg grew cold, with some stiffness while sitting in one of the lower nesting boxes on her own (we did try to help her up higher- many evening). After the bitter cold weather, we have been experiencing lately, it was touch and go with her lack of movement, and the fact she was at least over seven years of age (a wonderful innings, I say). So, we say rest in peace our sweet girl, thanks so very much for the time spent together and for the soft cuddles too. It warmed my heart (to also mention), to see one of our new chook girls sitting near ‘Ginger’ after she had passed; the compassion these beautiful animals possess is remarkable and wonderful…

Unfortunately too, Flossy has been very unwell again since end of last week; the poor girl has not been one hundred percent well since she unfortunately contracted Covid, back in March this year, also having had numerous days off school so far this year alone. Looking at all of Flossy’s symptoms and numerous bouts of viral infections over the past months (not Covid again- thankfully), Husband and I did some research (as we always do) and agreed to make an urgent appointment to see our GP. Given the Covid virus is a fairly new infection around the world; there are still many studies underway, about the long-term effects the virus has on individuals. Flossy has (unfortunately) more than likely developed some post ‘long Covid’ effects, that we have been reading about in various media outlets; our GP also agreed and arranged some further tests to rule out any other sinister health complaints. Fingers crossed Flossy will get through this latest infection and can begin to enjoy her life a bit more again (stay strong sweetheart- we love you!).

Due to caring for Flossy and attending some appointments and tests with her this week (not forgetting Mister C and Widy- while Husband is away for work) and also juggling work, time is again limited; so, instead of cancelling the blog altogether, I have decided to write a shortened version and have added a few extra words from Mister C. So, here goes… Enjoy and thanks for your ongoing support…

Flossy was sitting in the lounge room (last year), waiting for our favourite show to start. “C’mon, Mum, ‘The Voice’ is about to start!” Looking over to the lounge room and Flossy, I replied, “Yes, my sweet, I won’t be long. We have to watch the entire next show.” Mister C came running upstairs and said, “What’s on now, Mummy? What’s ‘The Voice’?” Flossy laughed and replied, “It’s quite a new show, where all the contestants sing behind the red chairs. It’s a competition!” I walked into the lounge room and giggled, “It’s such a great show too!” Mister C sat down next to Flossy, “Oh, I have one of those-a voice! Can I watch it too?” I nodded and replied, “Yes, my son. Of course, you do; you have a never-ending voice !” All giggled…

Dad was coking tea and served up the dish for everyone; he put the two plates down in front of the girls and said, “At least this curry has lots of flavour, unlike the last one I made.” Mister C smiled and replied, “Well, I could burn you, Dad; by saying you don’t have any flavour either!” Dad looked puzzled and then smiled, “What’s a burn, my son?” Mister C put his gold fork down and replied, “Well, Dad, it’s like roasting someone. It can be a bit funny or even a bit mean- sorry, Dad! I love your cooking and I didn’t mean to say that to you.” Dad nodded and giggled, “I love you, my son, or maybe not!” All laughed…

Mister C was attending another of his home-school ‘Zoom’ sessions (last year), with his awesome teacher and classmates. Dad was assisting Mister C this day, as I was at work that day. Dad set up Mister C in the big white swivel chair (his favourite) and the ‘Zoom’ connection was working well (yay!). Later, Dad walked back past the study/studio room and heard Mister C say, “I’ve just unmuted the chat button everyone, I can see a big number in the box… Mmm… There are a lot of chatterboxes in the ‘Zoom’ room today!” Dad heard all the kids laugh, including his teacher. Dad then giggled and smiled; Mister C looked up, a big grin on his face. Dad commented it was heart-warming to see Mister C looking so grown up and having his meeting, while also making his friends laugh…

A Word From Mister C…

Dad and Mister C were sitting at the dining table working on Mister C’s homework. Dad asked what times tables Mister C was up to and learning at present. Mister C grinned and replied, “Oh, Dad don’t you know, it’s the one times tables!” Dad stopped and frowned, “Oh, really, my son, I thought you learnt that one in year one!” Mister C burst out laughing and the cheeky young man then replied, “Oh, Dad, you’re so gullible. It’s the ten times tables not the ones; the ones are for little people, not for me- I’m big and strong, with a huge brain now!” Both laughed… 😄

Stay tuned…

With the ongoing family and health issues at present, I hope to continue the blog as usual next week. Stay tuned for more silly stories… Some exciting news to share, the Goulburn Lilac City Festival, held over the long weekend early in October, would like Me and Mister C, to hold a stall during the fantastic festival! We are excitedly arranging the details over the coming weeks and will keep all up-to-date shortly- it’s a little bit exciting!… Stay warm and safe, hugs Mister C… ❣

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
