Bonjour… It’s Mister C and Me…

We say a big hello in Canadian-French this week, the slang hello is ‘Eh’! Canada is one of our top countries who have visited our blog this past month (with real stats from ‘Monster Insights’)! We say a big thankyou for checking us out and for reading some of our blogs, it means so much to us! … Canada offers so much and is one of the countries, we really want to visit sooner rather than later (all things going well with more Covid strains rising up). According to the internet (so great!) the top seven things that are great about Canada include, their economy, health, education, culture, scenery, wildlife and of course food. Husband commented, “I really want to see real Royal Mounted Police (RCMP)- they are like Canada’s Federal Police. My favourite teacher in Primary School was from the Canadian Provence of Nova Scotia or (New Scotland). It amuses me that back (about 65 years ago ha!) when I was in Primary School, my favourite teacher’s name was actually Ronald McDonald.”

Well, is the Covid situation rearing up its ugly head again in NSW? With the media reports lately and the new strain named the’ Omicron ‘variant; according to ‘The Guardian’, ‘ten more cases of coronavirus from the Omicron variant have been confirmed in New South Wales, after the discovery of two more infected people.’ https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/nov/29/omicron). It is concerning to see this new variant jump across to our shores so quickly, and it is believed to be affecting younger people and children and not so much older adults (quite strange?). Stay safe everyone, remember to check in on your older family members and friends, they need a hug just as much every now and then too. Husband commented, “Well, there’s been no further staff circulars about this next strain; we are all heading back into the office from next week and that’s that!”

Only two more weeks of school left for this school year; the girls and Mister C are happy the year is coming to an end. The girls have worked very hard to complete all of their assessments on time, Widy receiving a high mark for her final art assessment and receiving an award for placing third overall in her year for history. Flossy did very well in her history and science work (well done girls!). Mister C has had an up and down last term, being more unsettled in the class room (mostly distracted by other children) and having further difficulties with other boys in the playground at recess time. Not going into too much detail (agreed with Husband not to write much and out of respect to others), Mister C has been home since last Thursday due to an incident at the school, nursing a sore head and mild concussion; he really doesn’t want to go back to school at all! After having a meeting with the school principal and class teacher, hopefully we can work through these latest issues and get through the remainder of the term (can only hope?) …

Husband had the strange and annoying lump removed on the side of his left hand last week; it was healing well and he made another appointment to see his GP for the removal of the five sutures. I took a look at the wound the day before and I said to Husband I didn’t think it was ready for the sutures to come out yet. I also warned to Husband to be careful of the wound, as it wasn’t fully healed yet (he did nod back to me). Sadly, the same afternoon Husband had the sutures carefully removed, Husband leant over in his car and burst the whole wound open! He came running in with blood dripping down his hand, with a look of horror on his face. I managed to calm him down; put some pressure on the wound with some clean gauze from the first aid kit and rang the rooms, to arrange to go straight back in to have the wound re-sutured (it did look quite bad). Thankfully, we were able to go straight up and see the GP (thanks very much); the practice nurse was not available and I offered to help the GP (being a nurse). Instead, the GP had it all covered; I watched a wonderful doctor gently and diligently re-suture up Husband’s sore hand. I have to add, it was refreshing to see the GP wash his hands before and after the procedure and use a perfect sterile field technique (well done and thank-you!). More oral antibiotics for Husband, I noticed he clutched his hand most of the evening, as the local anaesthetic wore off (poor man). Husband commented, “The local injection did hurt a lot, I had to grit my teeth for many minutes. I felt like a bit foolish having to go back to the rooms and have the wound re-done. No more leaning with the hand until it’s really healed; I won’t go back to get the sutures removed for a least ten days!”…

It must have been the week for ‘pet loss’, as we sadly lost our sweet Lucy girl chook towards the end of the week. Sweet Lucy was a very special chook girl, given to me by an old patient from my previous workplace; she was sprightly and wonderful. Never knowing exactly how old she actually was when I was given her, it was hard to pinpoint how old she truly was (perhaps six or seven). We miss our girl very much, but know she is safe in pet heaven and we will always remember her quirky ways with her featuring in our special first children’s book (RIP). The following day I decided to pull apart of the bird cage and scrub everything out. I spoke with Husband, who agreed no more budgies, as it made me sad (and the kids) to lose more birds (three in over seven years). A dear friend of mine (thanks H.C) breeds beautiful Finches (birds) and has been bred many over the past few years (so beautiful). I said to my friend I wasn’t getting any more budgies and she offered a pair of her painted finches-red, black and white spotted (so pretty) and I jumped for joy! Over the following days I made a small bird avery from a small greenhouse kit I bought from Bunnings’ (love that place) and bought some avery mesh (wire) and literally sewed it all up (by hand- yes my forearms did get some scratches) and made a sliding door at the bottom of the cage, with the old door I had taken off the old (black) budgie cage.

So, today my heart is now filled (once more) we have three beautiful little painted finches in our new avery (so far, they are doing very well). I must admit, I am in love with these sweet birds (where have you been my whole life?), and are waiting for the second male bird to join our avery, to make two sweet pairs (so exciting). Mister C and the girls were very sad at the loss of ‘Pearly’ (and of course Lucy); it was lovely to see a smile on their faces seeing our new birdy friends. I will illustrate a few images of the sweet birds soon (I promise) and put up on the blog site- names to follow…

A Word from Mister C…

Mister C came upstairs in the morning after having a bit of a sleep-in, the time was about 0730hrs and it was a pretty good sleep-in for all. “Hi, Mummy” Mister C said, smiling and rubbing his eyes. He ran to the toilet and came back, rubbing his head. “Hey, Mummy, is it the morning or the afternoon now?” I looked up at Mister C, “Hi, my son; what was that? Oh, it’s early still and daylight has only just begun!” … “Oh, I thought it was still night time,” he said yawning; “I must have had a very deep sleep and slept for more than three days and two long nights, all at once!” Both laughed… 😴

Stay tuned…

The festive season is approaching soon; are you ready for Santa? With all of the festive busyness coming up, stay safe and enjoy every minute you have with your loved ones. Whatever it is you will be doing, remember to do what sparks you to feel the most joy. A big shout out to other communities and families who celebrate other special events in their lives, we hope you enjoy your time with family and friends too. Hugs Me and Mister C… 🎀

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
