Happy New Year… From Me and Mister C!

Well, happy New Year to everyone! It’s now the year 2022, as I wrote last week (blog), it’s the Chinese year of the water Tiger; surely with all of the special number two’s everywhere (lots in my birthday coming up- 22.02.22 this year!), there will be good things coming to all of us who have been waiting so patiently… Me and Mister C hope for some brighter skies, more special time with family and friends and less Covid cases (and variants) this year. We hope you are keeping safe and well and you were able to have a little rest and relaxation over this last weekend of festivities and time for some reflections (and a few New Year’s resolutions?) …

No blog (per say) this week (sorry), after my very busy (and somewhat stressful) nursing work over the weekend, my mind has been preoccupied about my dear residents I help care for. I have been working hard to have our fifth book manuscript completed by this week (all the while missing our sweet dear Duggie). Guess what? I did just complete the final first draft this morning! So, instead I thought you might like to read another few words from Mister C and our family (just because I can), for a good laugh to get us all through… Enjoy! …

Dad was setting the dining table, as he chatted about having his left knee surgery soon. Mister C came skipping into the dining room, frowned and then said, “Is Dad getting a metal robotic knee, Mummy? Can I have one too?” Both laughing, “No, my son,” Dad replied laughing. “I’m getting my sore knee fixed by the orthopaedic surgeon very soon; but with my own bone, not robotic metal. Hopefully I will be able to run around with you again.” … “Yes,” I also said, “Dad will have to wear a brace and not drive for many weeks!” … “Oh, that’s not good,” Mister C sighed. “Don’t worry, Dad, I can be your personal knee boy helper then?!” …

Everyone was sitting around the dining table having tea; Dad was mentioning about having some time off work, to recover after his upcoming knee surgery. “So, kids, I’ll have to stay home for a few weeks after my knee surgery soon. I won’t be able to drive for quite a while as well.” …. “Oh, no” the kids all moaned; Widy sighed and replied, “I wish I could have had my licence by now, I could have driven myself around and helped Mum out too- sorry!” Flossy smiled and looked at me, “We can all help; it will be okay, Mum.” Leaning in to give me a hug, Flossy whispered in my ear, “I love you, Mum!” Dad looked over, a sad look came over his face, “I can go to Granny’s for a few days too; that may help a bit with the family and all the goings on?” Mister C looked up with a grin on his cheeky face, “So, Granny can feel the pain then too, Dad?!” All laughed…

Sitting at the dining table, having tea (again); the girls were talking about science and the subjects they may have for next year. Flossy sighed and said, “Well, I will have to dissect a frog in my science class next term!” Mister C looked surprised, “Oooh, really? You can resurrect a dissected frog, did you know?” … “How, Mister C?” Dad replied, giggling… “Well,” Mister C replied, “Like Frankenstein, you can sew it back up and put some electricity though the frog and then it will come alive again!” We all groaned, “Well, I don’t think so, my son,” I replied, “Frogs are beautiful living creatures and it wouldn’t be nice to even dissect one either; but sometimes science does these things to find out more about a certain species.” Mister C smiled, “Yes, Mummy, like how do frogs jump up so high?” Flossy replied back, as she stood up from the table, “You don’t need to dissect a frog to know that, they have really long stretchy legs, like you Mister C!” All giggled…

Sitting on the couch with Mister C early in the morning, after taking Widy to her full day of work experience through the ‘PCYC’ (thank-you). A ray of sunlight shone through the room, it shone right into Mister C’s face, “Oh”, he said, “The Sun’s up, Mummy!” Mister C moved his pillow over to the other side of the couch, some dust fibres flew out and up into the light. Mister C stood up and said, “Oooh, look at that, Mummy, this house is so dusty! I bet the sun attracts all the dust like a light magnet – a dust magnet! I like the Sun, but not the dust, it does make me randomly sneeze many times at once”…

A Word from Mister C…

Dad was making broccoli for his own lunch and called out of the kitchen area, “Does anyone want some broccoli?” We all called out, “No!” Mister C came running into the kitchen and said, “That’s gross, Dad! No broccoli for breakfast, lunch or tea. Broccoli smells like poo and tastes like smelly old socks, none for me, please!” Dad began laughing and replied, “What about some soft juicy mushrooms, then instead, my son?” … Mister screwed up his little face and said, “No! That’s no good at all, Dad. You can keep your vegetables for yourself for your lunch, I’m having a piece of good trusty toast!” Both giggled…

Stay tuned…

Me and Mister C, the girls with Husband are so looking forward to our booked trip away at the end of the week. We are going to stay safe, wear our masks and sanitise our hands everywhere we go (not far). We look forward to feeling more refreshed when we get back, it’s been over a whole year since we had a little family getaway together (is much needed). We thank our dear friend for helping with our remaining chooks and new finches (thanks so much H.C). Oh, by the way we have our new painted male, his name is ‘Rhett’! (Drawings to follow soon- thanks too H.C!). So, now the two pairs are complete, ‘Red’ & ‘Robin’ and ‘Rhett’ & ‘Ruby’, they are so very sweet and have helped very much with our ongoing sadness, over losing so many dear pets this last year. Hugs from Mister C… 🌈

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
