Hello… It’s Me and Mister C…

Hiya! We hope you have been having a happy, sunny week? It has been much warmer these past days (a nice change?); it is good, but our bodies need a day or two to adjust to the heat, don’t you think? I know for myself and the girls (not so much Mister C or Husband); we all need to skull heaps of fresh water, the first day or so; then our bodies seem to reset and cruise along (until it nearly reaches the dreaded forty degrees- then we melt!). Sadly, we said goodbye to our oldest chook girl, ‘Polly’ earlier in the week (old age we think?). She was over six years old, the matriarch of the group and very tired. We say farewell, and thanks for all the wonderful eggs and clucks (now back to nine chook girls- again!). I can happily report though, our four baby chooks are growing well and doing all the right things; yesterday the girls successfully integrated with the other five older girls (who are very set in their ways) …

Well, as many know (how could we all forget, Mister C has been counting down his day for the past sixty days!) we celebrated Mister C’s eighth birthday yesterday! It was a busy and chaotic; yet a mostly happy day. We had arranged two of Mister C’s best mates to come over for the afternoon; for some party games, wading pool fun and a trip to our local ‘Adventure Playground’. The weather was great (thankfully no rain this time- unlike other birthdays in the past). We had also arranged a friend each, for the girls to have over (more the merrier?!); unfortunately, Widy’s friend had to go to ACT and couldn’t make it (Widy had to work too); leaving Flossy’s bestie to come over later in the afternoon (hiya A.F!). It was a noisy, but entertaining afternoon; particularly watching the boys interact and have fun with their shark hand puppets (a bit of a hit at our local school, I think?!). Husband and I, clearly saw those differences between boys and girls at the same age; it was however, interesting to see individual personality traits too! Husband commented, “I thought girls parties were definitely calmer more and controlled!”

Husband and I were discussing earlier in the week, what ‘surprise’ to arrange for Mister C and the girls, from Santa this year. We usually organised something largish for all the kids to enjoy together (even though it’s getting harder, as the age gap widens). Last year we arranged flights to North Stradbroke Island, for all the family to go on a ‘Santa holiday’ (it was a truly memorable trip). This year, we discussed updating the ‘Play Station’ equipment (not cheap!); Mister C and Flossy had mentioned new controllers and game wands, they wanted to use. We decided to buy a larger TV (I know it’s not well to promote screens; but with five people in the house, we all need our TV space!) to put downstairs, and had found a second-hand surprise for the kids to use with the new TV (can’t disclose the surprise till after Christmas!). I said, “Well, I will have to finish painting the rumpus room; give it a good clean and re-arrange the furniture (very important; and will also need to buy another sling chair from ‘Ikea’-best chairs ever!); so we are all more comfortable, and want to sit downstairs (is like a basement- but cool!). The girls both got an early second-hand gift, with updating Widy’s small TV with the larger one (still small) from downstairs; while Flossy got the small one in the cabinet from Widy’s room (well done girls!).

Days later, I was still painting the damn room (those nasty rendered brick walls and old cream trims!); my lower back was aching, as well as my left buttock too (funny spot, right?). Husband managed to purchase the TV at a good price; I had arranged to pick it up, near the’ Ikea’ store in Majura Park area, in ACT. I finally finished the cleaning up, an hour before Mister C’s small birthday party, was due to start yesterday. I then rushed for a shower, to scrub my paint clad hands; only to find Husband putting the base on the TV, not noticing the large crack on the TV screen. “Oh, no!” I exclaimed; “What’s that crack there? How could it be damaged; it’s only just come out of the box and wrapping!” Husband sighed and muttered something under his breath; we both looked at each other and our shoulders dropped. Husband then sighed, “I’m gonna have to return it and get an exchange; we can’t use a broken TV!”…

It has been a busy week, with the painting renos downstairs, work, family and birthday celebrations; no blog about 2017 this time (sorry- we are nearly there to 2018). Mister C asked everyone what they like about birthdays (after I had asked him first). Here are our answers and a birthday word from Mister C too. Thanks for your continued support; enjoy!…

Dad: “I like getting lots of attention from all my family and friends, for my birthday!”…

Widy: “I like celebrations and getting double presents from both my families, on my birthday!”…

Flossy: “I love the birthday treats, cakes and lots of gifts- like new puppies!”…

Flossy’s friend (A.F): “I love the party games and lollies!”…

Mum (Me): “I love spending time with family and friends, and getting lots of birthday hugs!”…

Mister C: “I love having my friends over and turning another year older. I liked turning eight. I don’t feel any different, yet; but I do feel older! Do I look any older, Mummy?… I like getting presents; the biggest ‘Lego’ box ever and my new shark hand puppet- it’s the BEST! I love having lots of birthday hugs too! Thank-you, Mummy for organising my little party; the red ‘Star Wars’ piñata was so COOL!”…

A Word from Mister C…

“Is it time yet, Mummy? Mister C asked, flapping his hands about… “Not yet, my now eight-year-old son,” I replied; “Your best friends will be here, very soon!” … “I can’t wait, you know. I’ve got ants in my pants, having to wait for my friends to come over for my birthday. Do they know I’m eight today?” … “Yes, my son,” I laughed; “Everyone knows you’re turning eight today!” … Giggling; Mister C then said, “I love my new shark hand puppet; I will show my friends when they get here. We can play with our puppets all afternoon!” … “What about the wading pool, Mister C?” Flossy called out… “Oh, yeah; we can splash around in the pool, with our hand puppets on too!” …

Stay tuned…

Mister C just wanted to send out a BIG thank-you to everyone for the birthday wishes, cards and gifts he received for his special day. It means a lot to us and thankyou from our contented hearts! ❤… Our second books are nearly ready- very exciting! We have created some invite cards for our book signing on 6th December. Please keep an eye out for more details. Keep on reading; the end of 2017 is near…

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
