Hi, it’s us… Mister C and Me…

Hellooo… Only ONE more day left of the school hols for the kids (if your kids go back on Tuesday due to another pupil-free day!). I have to write; it has been great having the girls and Mister C home over this time; they have enjoyed their well-earned break too. But, it’s now time to get back to school and routines (yes please-phew!) … I can report, the kids have had a nice break, with an hour or two of a little boredom (not too much: ‘I’m bored, Mum’ this time) … I am VERY excited (and relieved) to announce, yesterday I finally finished our third book illustrations! Yes, all done and dusted on my end; now we have to patiently wait for our designer to do her bit (thanks so much L.F), for our final book to be file-ready for printing (and then some happy reading to follow).

I was luckily enough, to celebrate this milestone with Husband (of course) and some close family and friends on Saturday night. Husband and I had a quick getaway for the late afternoon and overnight in ACT (thanks for letting us stay at your house M & J.B-L), for Husband’s bro’s BIG fiftieth birthday and one of our dear friend’s was also turning the big milestone too (hiya D.L and D.S, happy birthday to you again!). It was great to catch up (hi all and thanks for the great company); however, Husband and I were a bit worn out, when we got to the party venue. Husband took it upon himself to arrange a plan for our transport, so I could have a few drinks too (thanks love-I usually always drove home). So, we drove to ACT late afternoon (Widy was all set with helping with the kids overnight), Husband arranged an ‘Uber’ (private taxi) to Woden Bus interchange (funny story there-for another time), caught a bus to the City, then walked over to the new tram station and caught the tram to North Canberra, and then we finally walked about 15mins to where the venue was (phew- we had made it!), over an hour or so later than expected… Husband and I never minded going on little adventures like this, it never worried us; we have lots of experience under our belts getting around together; particularly Husband, who has travel to many parts of our glorious world. Funny though, on most of our adventures, we always reminisce on one particular unusual adventure, going through the back streets of Las Vegas (USA) trying to get back to our resort style hotel, with me nearly seven months pregnant (with Flossy) back in 2008-luckily, I had Husband for protection (no offence intended to that unique community).

Mister C, Flossy and I (Widy not so much interest there) are VERY excited to announce, our fluffy ‘silkie’ chook babies are now home with us, making our chook girl clan an even big ten (once more). Flossy and I went to pick up our three white ‘silkie’ babies Monday afternoon (after a busy day at work for me), we got them home and introduced them to rest of the family. We finally came up with our chosen names; they are: ‘Ivory’ (the biggest and oldest), ‘Cloudy’ (the middle girl) and ‘Lalah’, the cutest and smallest of the bunch… We are very smitten with our girls; Flossy has been amazing and such a great help (thanks so much sweetheart!). We have taken some super cute pics, of which I will endeavour to some drawings of early next week; I will upload a few to the blog site and Instagram shortly (I promise!).

I have to say, it has been a very busy and productive school holidays this time; our new carport and auto gate are now completed and working too (makes it so worthwhile when it does!). Thanks heaps, our great handyman and off-sider (B.W & B), you can pretty much make anything!… I have done a little painting this afternoon (I know?); the girls and I trotted off the Bunnings (love that place!), to buy four red pots (Husband asked for red), potting mix (soil) and plants to go next to the four metal carport posts; some solar lights and more paint (can never have enough paint-right?). After looking at our new shiny grey carport roof, I decided to repaint the long patio deck (has been over three years since I put the first coat on- not finishing it back then); the roof is so shiny, the patio area is SO not! Wish me luck? The reason why I never finished the deck all those years ago, was because it nearly broke my back then (not to mention what might happen this time now) …

On Thursday evening, we decided to bid on a good car for Widy, on an online auction site (‘All-bids’) and after an hour of knuckle-biting tension-won the bid! It was very exciting, but also extremely nerve-wrecking at same time… Widy is super excited, but a bit overwhelmed, as to just how much cars do really cost to purchase; with the on road costs, set up with insurance and those blue and green slips for registration (is a good learning step). Husband had mention in passing last week, that there were some cheaper good cars on the website and that we should take a look. Funnily enough, we found a suitable car straight way, and decided to get it properly inspected first, prior to making any final bids on the car (is a big purchase even for us semi-oldies). So, Husband kindly organised the inspection (thanks love!) while I was at work; the report came back very good and the car was in quite good condition for its age (2012 model). I ran to the motor registry (service NSW shopfront) after another long day at work on Friday afternoon, and successfully arranged and paid for a vehicle permit for the unregistered car (with W.A plates mind you!); so, we could drive it from ACT through to NSW, with no registration (is a lot of work and paperwork to do), but I know it should be worth it in the end (wish me luck please?!) …

No stories from 2018 this week (sorry?), my head is still a bit furry from last night’s celebrations (can’t believe I’m still standing-or sitting rather at present). Thanks for your ongoing support, we love you reading our blogs each week. Don’t forget to subscribe if you really like us all! 🙃

Here’s another word (anecdote) from Mister C…

In the car driving home from ACT with Flossy and Mister C a few weeks back; we picked up Widy on the way from her work at ‘Maccas’, as she had just finished her long eight hour shift that afternoon. Mister C and Widy were talking in the back about Widy’s other family; Widy commented, “I have Mum, Dad, my other Dad and my Step-mum; I also have double the Grandparents and cousins, and more half siblings too,” she went on to say. Mister C looked puzzled and said, “Do I have a Step-mum and Step-dad too?” … “No!” we all chorused and began laughing loudly together in the car… 🤔

A Word from Mister C…

Early December last year, before our second book signing for our new book; Mister C and I were waiting patiently for our books to arrive. The door bell rang one morning before school, Mister C came running up to the door and said, “Is that our books, Mummy?” … “Yes, I think so,” I said, carefully opening one box. “Oh, yay!” I said excitedly; “It’s our books and they look amazing!” … “Let me see,” Mister C said beaming; standing on one of the dining room chairs. “Oh, wow; did you really make those books, Mummy? You are so clever!” …  “Well,” I said laughing, “I wrote and illustrated the books, but I didn’t physically make or print them, my son.” … “Wow, Mum, you still are so clever!” Flossy said, as she walked into the room and picked up one of the book packs. “Can we read it now?” Mister C then said, smiling… “Of course; let’s all sit down and take a look together?” I replied, my heart warmed with contentment… ❣

Stay tuned…

Very exciting to report (and relieved-phew!), I have finally completed all the illustrations for our third book. I have uploaded all the pages to send to our format designer this weekend (thanks L.F) and we should have a book ready for print in the coming weeks-stay tuned… More zanier stories to end 2018 with a bang… Night from Mister C (who is still singing in his bed as I write this down now) …

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
