Hiya! It’s Me and Mister C…

Well, hello to you! Me and Mister C hope you enjoyed a little sunshine over this holiday long weekend (apart from the at times gusty winds). Sadly, no travelling for us yet; we couldn’t go visit our happy place at Burrill Lake (South Coast) this time (hopefully it will be soon). Of course, Mister C and the girls were (very) disappointed (as were we); instead, we made a good plan to have a special family tea outside on our patio, with some drinks (alcoholic for the parents and a small glass for Widy and Flossy, while lemonade for Mister C) and a huge platter of yum nibbles, consisting of three different cheeses, French onion dip, crackers, strawberries, blueberries (our favourite right now), deli meats, chips and chocolates. We played a fun game of ‘Bingo’ (my favourite); we all won a choc prize for winning ‘Bingo’ for every line and a ‘major’ prize for winning a whole card (I won a face mask and nuts, Mister C won a DVD and ‘Halloween’ chocs!). It wasn’t the same as wriggling our warm toes, in the cool soft sand at Mollybook beach, but it would have to suffice for now. We are all dreaming of our first escape (as you may be too); where would you like to go first?…

Our thoughts go out to the communities that were rocked by the incredible tornado that ripped through Bathurst and surrounding areas last week (something I have never seen here in Australia in my lifetime- only cyclones). We were sad to see the devastation the tornado left behind, and we can only imagine the terror of seeing such a natural phenomenon. According to social media, ‘the tornado left a 30km trail of destruction when it struck a rural area between Bathurst and Lithgow on Thursday afternoon. The Bureau of Meteorology called it a rare phenomenon!’ https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-01/bathurst-tornado-destroys-everything-in-its-path/100505678

Now into week seven of our local ‘lockdown’, things are looking up with restrictions set to ease from Monday 11th October (yippy!). School (home) is back today (yay or nay?); with term four now upon us, for a (lengthy) eleven-week term to follow through, until the festive season (Christmas) comes around (again). Last night, Flossy announced she wanted to attend school today; she wanted to see her friends, who were also allowed to attend the day and the whole school ‘Zoom’ meeting. Widy declined and wanted to do her home school, tucked in her bed in her sunny new room (don’t blame her really!). Mister C was also booked to attend school today (due to my work and online study); both were up smiling and dressed before 8am, it was a pleasure to see everyone happy and busy (let’s hope their days were, okay?).

Also, over the long weekend I was able to get in and complete a few more painting jobs and finish off the kitchenette downstairs. I was able to (very carefully) repaint the kitchen bench (after some good advice from ‘Bunnings’- thanks), with the new ‘renovation’ paint set- (more money spent at Bunnings-we love this hardware shop!), Husband did sigh, but he knew it was cheaper than replacing the entire benchtop (don’t you think?). After many hours of work painting three coats with a primer first and then two top coats (‘malay grey’ colour), the benchtop looked AMAZING; I was so pleased I did go through with the job! With the specially mixed paint, it had to be used within three to five days and then totally discarded (in the tin); naturally, I couldn’t waste the paint (it was expensive-ish), so, I decided to give the laundry and foyer floor tiles a go, with the reno set and painted it all too. It was a massive job and something I probably didn’t really have the time to undertake (but was so worth it). Husband the kids all gasped when I showed them the finished rooms, it has completely transformed the two rooms, from old eighties’ beige tiles (no offense) to a fresh and trendy new-age grey (yay!). We also can’t wait for our ordered items from IKEA, Flossy’s new double bed and Widy’s bedroom cupboard (early Christmas gifts) should be arriving in the next two weeks or so (yay)…

With all of my hours of painting over the past few days, with finishing off the kitchenette renos downstairs and the flooring upstairs, my muscles and brain are quite tired – a well needed (and earned) massage has been booked later today, at a new venue (thanks heaps!)- after two months of waiting, I can’t wait!

No stories from 2020 this blog (sorry); here’s another word from Mister C instead…

Mister C was outside playing soccer with Flossy in the sunny afternoon. “It’s Daylight Savings tomorrow,” I called out from the chook area, at the back of the yard. “Oh, no!” sighed Flossy. “I don’t like Daylight Savings; why do we have to move the clocks, aren’t the clocks in the correct places now, anyway?” Giggling, I replied, “No, Flossy, it’s an old tradition that enables our side of the world to have more daylight in the Summer-time. We have to move all the clock’s hands forward tonight for tomorrow,” as I walked up to where the kids were playing. “Oh, I love saving daylight, Mummy,” Mister C called out; “I have more time to run around in the saved light, yay!” All laughed…😏

A Word from Mister C…

Mister C was eating his lunch at the dining table and then looked up smiling, “Guess what, Mummy? It’s a pinch and a punch kind of day today! It’s the beginning of October and my birthday in forty days!” Smiling back at Mister C, I replied, “Oh wow, my son. I guess I should give you a slap and a kick for being so quick (not actually doing so). Wow, you love numbers, my son. How do you know it’s only forty days until your birthday? You’re SO clever!” (I did check it in my head first) … “Oh, I know, Mummy. Numbers just appear in my head- it’s really cool!” Both laughed…🙃

Stay tuned…

For more mid-year stories from 2020 (sadly, life does get worse), with ‘Corona’ virus well and truly landing on our shores… Home-schooling commences end of March and the kids need to time to adjust to it all (just like us parents too!)… Good news, we are getting closer to our latest ‘stay at home’ orders lifting soon; there’ll be more fun things to do and some travelling on the cards over the coming months. The Summer school hols are looking a bit brighter (yay!). Night from Mister C…

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
