Dobryi den’ from Me and Mister C!…

This week, Me and Mister C wish to acknowledge the unique country of Ukraine, by saying dobryi den’ (formal hello) in their native language of Ukrainian; the informal hello to note (hi) is pryvit. Sadly, we also acknowledge the horrific events and devastation that is being seen on social media over these past several days. Our hearts go out to all the communities that have been affected; we hope the hostilities will end soon, so peace and recovery can then be restored for you and your families. Seeing such deliberate acts of ‘war’ is shocking, while this debilitating destruction (in my view) is unnecessary in our current climate and turbulent- but modern times.

We send a big shout out to all the wonderful SES workers and communities (and families) affected by the recent floods in North NSW and South-East QLD. We have never seen so much rain, our hearts go out to all affected; nearly eight weeks on from the flood to our house and property; we understand the stress and shock these types of natural disasters cause; it is a long road to recovery- but it can be done. Mister C and Me also wish to send a big good-luck to my niece, who has recently obtained a new position up in South QLD and had just moved up there over the weekend. We are so very proud of you and wish you every success with your new endeavours; you have worked so very hard over the past four years and deserve it all (love you Z.M). I’m sure the family are missing you- just as we are; good-luck with your first day and stay safe through the floodwater areas and difficult time in South QLD at present.

Poor Widy was playing sport at school last Wednesday, when she damaged her left hand and thumb during an ‘Aus-tag’ tackle, the school rang me and Widy had to come home. I took one look at her hand and took her straight up to the local A&E department, for a review and x-ray as I was fairly certain there was a fracture there at the base of the thumb (déjà vu from over two years ago with the other hand from her karate injury). Over six hours spent at the department, the staff were very kind and Widy had both an x-ray and CT scan, showing a fracture and bone fragment with possible tendon damage (Widy never does things in halves!). Widy escaped needing surgery, after having another trip the next day to the local hospital, for an Ultrasound test to rule out any tendon damage; thankfully she didn’t and had a ‘Spica’ splint (plastic ridged splint) made for her thumb with the physio (thank-you very much!). Widy has just gone back to school today and has a follow-up Orthopaedic Specialist review this week, to see how her thumb is going. She complained of not being able to drive, and I said that it was very strange having to pick her up from school with Flossy and Mister C; hopefully soon she will get back to some normality and sport in about three weeks…

Great news, our home contents claim has now finally been approved and we should receive the funds by the end of the week (fingers crossed), so we can replace all of the content items (same for same) we lost in the flood- ‘Ikea’ here we come! Sadly, when I was cleaning up the rooms downstairs, getting ready for the carpet install booked for tomorrow and new wooden hard flooring in the walk-in wardrobe area next week, I found a small patch of mould on the wall trim in the rumpus room, (where most of the water came gushing into the room). I felt bad as Mister C was down stairs most of the afternoons and had developed a post nasal drip and had been sniffing his nose late in the evening; little did we know he may have been reacting to the mould downstairs? Even though it was a small amount, the spores can spread quickly and I believe children are more affected with respiratory issues than adults (Husband had needed to be sleeping on the sofa bed down there too!).

So, I quickly did some online research about how best to deal with it and then grabbed the bleach, a bucket, gloves, a mask (have lots of those) and began to clean away the affected trims; carefully disposing of the cleaning cloths in a bag and into the rubbish bin outside. The next day, I rewashed the areas again with cloudy ammonia (great stuff) and let it all dry out. I have also re-done no-gaps to areas and painted the trims (again) with fresh white semi-gloss paint (too much work!). The rooms all smell and look much better, the humidifier still working hard and collecting lots of moisture liquid too; let’s hope the mould doesn’t grow back. I can happily report, since Mister C has been upstairs watching the TV and after we moved the kids monitor and PC upstairs too, Mister C has not had a sniffle or blocked nose since and slept very week last night (such parent guilt, with not seeing the mould sooner). Hopefully, with the new carpet going with high quality underlay, the rooms will not have any further issues (we can only hope), and we can purchase a new bed frame (from ‘Ikea’ of course) and finally get a good night’s sleep too…

Here’s another word from Mister C to share…

Mister C was downstairs giving me a hug in bed (before the flood) and then began to run back upstairs to say bye to Dad, before he left to go to work. I called out half asleep, “Hi, my son, can you please ask Dad to sign the documents online, before he goes to work?” Mister C turned around and replied, “Oh, okay, Mummy, I will ask him,” and ran upstairs. A few minutes later, Husband appeared downstairs as a shadow in the dim light. I turned to look up and was startled. Dad smiled, then said, “Mister C said, I had to get the green donuts?” I laughed then said, “Oh, no. I said, please sign the documents, not donuts; but thinking about it, green ones do sound nice!” Both laughed… 🍩

A Word from Mister C…

Mister C and Dad were reading on the couch after tea. Mister C looked up and said, “The world will be taken over by robots soon, Dad!” Dad looked surprised and replied, “Oh, really, my son. Why is that?” … “Well,” Mister C smiled, “The robot apocalypse will take over in fifty-five years and then there will be no humans! The robots will be bad ones and will destroy all of us completely and then take over the world!” Looking puzzled, Dad replied, “Wow, my son, that sounds like a bad day is to come?” … “Yes, Dad. Don’t worry, I will be there to protect you, Mummy and the girls; I will be half robot and half human by then” … 🐱‍🏍

Stay Tuned…

Our exciting local show event (Goulburn Show) is coming up this weekend (so looking forward to it), let’s hope the rain stays away for a few hours, so we can all enjoy some fun and events. If you’re also local to our area, please come along for a book reading and signing of our books. I have only five illustrations to go with our fifth book (phew!); we should have a proof of the cover shortly. Stay safe and happy. Hugs Me and Mister C… 💟

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...

  1. Interesting that the paragraph about the aftermath of your flood 8 weeks ago will be played out right across the North Eastern part of our country. We are all so thankful, now, that your flood wasn’t worse. So much hard work in the continuing clean- up!!

    1. Yes, we are still having troubles with the concrete flooring, but are now working it all out with our builder; hopefully not long now… Hugs Me and Mister C… 🌈
