Hello… It’s Me and Mister C

Hi there… Well, what a long week it has been; with all the challenges the virus (‘bug thing’ as Mister C says) has brought to our town (and yours too no doubt). I have to say, I thought home-schooling would be much easier, than it has proven to be. I think I was doomed from the start, when Mister C sat grumpily at our dining-room table (now the makeshift home classroom) and said, “You’re not my teacher, Mummy! I don’t have to be nice to you, cause you’re not a good teacher like her!” My heart sank when I heard the comment, particularly after having to make those tough decisions (like most of us Mums and Dads at present), regarding whether to keep our kids at home, or to go to school; and for how long? For me being a registered nurse, I cannot take time off at present (and future leave may be postponed too); while, our dear patients need us more than ever, particularly our precious elderly ones. I still feel torn (perhaps Mother guilt too) over caring and being there, for both my family and for our patients in our beautiful community.

The second day of home-schooling, I can report did improve, somewhat; Mister C looked at me in a new light (perhaps, wow! Mum can be a teacher and a Mum too!) and the girls did listen (thanks girls, I love you and Mister C), and did most of the work, that had been set out for them from their individual teachers. Having been in touch with all three schools for the kids (yes, three different school for three kids!), they were very supportive (thanks so much!). We had set up a good plan, for over the next two to three weeks; obviously, depending upon the spread of the ‘bug thing’. I had arranged to keep the kids home on my days off, while send the kids to school (when able) when I had to work (luckily, I work part-time). I know this may sound strange to some parents, but Husband was asked to work two-three days per week at home (starting this week- arrg!) with no notice mind you, nor choice of days to do this! Being a full-time manager in a Government Department (in another state mind you), he couldn’t refuse; all while not supposed to be looking after our three kids, working downstairs in front of a computer for seven to eight hours a day! (What were we going to do?). …

Of course, we are so grateful for our jobs (as we know many have lost theirs- we are so very sorry). We all have many stresses now, be it with a job or without, families and communities are struggling to maintain calmness and humour in their households right now (I know, for us it’s tough, but important to maintain this for our kids). We know, (hopefully, not so much with our new ‘social distancing’ laws?) as the virus grows momentum, it will (unfortunately) spread, and more innocent people will succumb to it, sadly. Mister C and I, with our family, send our warmest thoughts to all the people who are, and have been affected by this terrible pandemic (something we will never forget in our lifetime). I wanted to send a BIG shout-out to everyone, everywhere; this week I’ll do it for all the teachers and parents out there, tackling the school and home situation this week (we so appreciate our teachers, more so now than ever!). Husband tried to take Mister C to the local park earlier today; they were both saddened to see all parks have been closed off, but Husband said, “He was not really surprised, and thought it was necessary now.”… Mister C said this morning, “I love my teacher, my friends and my school, Mummy; please don’t let it close down, yet!”…

A bit of a change in usual plans this week… I don’t feel like writing about 2015 (a bit of Mother exhaustion today!); let’s stay in 2020! Here’s a few funny stories instead (to help brighten your night/day!)…

Here’s a funny comment from Husband (who loves food!). … “While at the dinner table tonight; I said, I should cut all the fat off my pork chop. Mister C called out, “Don’t worry Daddy, you’re already fat!”…

Here’s a joke from Sister Flossy (who loves books!). … “What is the tallest building in the entire world? The Library, as it has so many stories!” Another joke from Flossy… “Why couldn’t the pony sing a lullaby? She was a little hoarse!” (Google jokes).

Here’s a joke from Big sister Widy (who works very hard at Maccas!)… “How is working the fry station at McDonald’s like studying Plato and Aristotle? You really learn to appreciate ancient grease’. (Maccas jokes).

Here’s a story from Mister C…”We were talking about deadly spiders in class a while back. There’s this one deadly spider from Indonesia; it is very rare; it only comes out at night and is very deadly with its long fangs… I know how to protect ourselves from the deadly spider; here are my five things to avoid being bitten… One: Stand still, stand very still. Two: Close your eyes tight. Three: Put your hands between your legs. Four: Strap boxes and egg cartons around your whole body and legs. Five: Tie two pillows around your waist and strap a book to your head. This will help you stay protected from the spiders!” (Maybe even the ‘bug thing’ virus too?)…

A final word from me… “I keep hearing music coming from my printer. I think the paper is jamming!” (No, seriously, I keep hearing things downstairs in here!)….

A word from Mister C…

Mister C was lying in bed for story-time last night, we had read a book together (yes, it was our new Mister C book). He looked a bit dismayed and sighed, “I wish the ‘bug thing’ virus was gone; how long is it going to take to get rid of, Mummy? One of my friends at school, his Dad just lost his job! This makes me sad and angry; we all need money to live and go to the shops, don’t we? Tucking Mister C into bed and giving him a big hug; I sighed, then smiled,” It’s going to be a long few weeks my son, a very quiet Easter. Sadly, people we know, are losing their jobs at present; we all have to stick together and ride through the virus storm.” Mister C nodded, “When the ‘bug thing’ virus is gone and I grow up, I’m going to move to Canada! I will work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as a pizza delivery person; on Mondays and Wednesdays, I will be a part-time ‘Youtuber’. Fridays will be my rest day during the week, I will play my favourite games all day long! You, Dad and the girls could come visit me on the weekends, that would be fun!”…

Stay tuned…

I just wanted to say thanks to all for your ongoing support; with our two scheduled book signing events not being able to go ahead, things have been up in the air at present. Silly me too, (yes, my bad), I forgot Amazon don’t deliver books to Australia, yet! So, please bear with me; I am endeavouring to have the second self-publishing company ready by early next week. You will be able to purchase the book (if wanted) through this site; link will be provided on Facebook and the blog site, shortly. For now, you can review the book and purchase it as an e-book for your kindle, or you can get in touch with me (only if local- sorry) and I can arrange to sign and sell the book that way. ❤

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
