Hello, it’s Me and Mister C here!

Happy Chinese Lunar New Year! I have been told it is now the year of the Water Rabbit, with the celebrations of the Chinese Lunar New Year being held last weekend. It was wonderful to see the colourful traditions of this special Chinese event on social media last evening. Husband and I both commented and agreed while watching some of the images of the bright parades across the country, that when we were young children, we both found the parade dragons and loud percussion music a bit daunting, but still very exciting to watch nonetheless; and of course, we all love the delicious Chinese cuisine…

According to: Fefe Ho & Chloe Chiao, ‘The Rabbit is the fourth of all zodiac animals. Legend has it the Rabbit was proud—arrogant even—of its speed. He was neighbours with Ox and always made fun of how slow Ox was. One day, the Jade Emperor said the zodiac order would be decided by the order in which the animals arrived at his party. Rabbit set off at daybreak. But when he got there, no other animals were in sight. Thinking that he would obviously be first, he went off to the side and napped. However, when he woke up, three other animals had already arrived. One of them was the Ox he had always looked down upon. Rabbits are also known to be earnest with everything they do; they just ask that others treat them the same way. In Chinese culture, rabbits represent the moon; some say it is because the shadows of the moon resemble a rabbit, others say it is because of the rabbit’s pure characteristics.’ https://chinesenewyear.net/zodiac/rabbit/

Well, only one more week for the summer school hols to go for us in New South Wales (who’s counting?!). Husband and Mister C have been counting the days (and weeks too!) for their father-son bonding trip up to sunny QLD, to see Husband’s Bro and family (Hi all!). The flights were booked and thankfully nothing (so far) had been cancelled or changed (is a relief); they both left quite early this morning, Mister C still blurry-eyed, but very excited. A long day of travelling for them, but well worth the effort to get up there- no doubt. Husband’s older Bro and partner were also visiting last weekend and early this week, so it was good timing for all to have a brotherly (and family) catch up!

Staying home this time, the girls and I were looking forward to some peaceful ‘girl-time’ together (and with our pets). Our first day unfortunately didn’t go quite to plan, with us all having to wait in line at the girls’ local high school for over two hours, to purchase books packs and school clothing items (were short-staffed sadly). Thanks for driving us girls around Widy- it’s very much appreciated and let’s hope for better luck tomorrow? With a planned outing to go to the movies to see a fun film, after my booked check x-ray of my c-spine (neck) in the morning- now ten weeks post my neck surgery (how time flies?).

Due to my ongoing shoulder (and neck) pain this week, along with a bit of an overwhelmed frame of mind after my first physio review yesterday (all a part of the rehab), I will be writing an abbreviated school-holiday version of the blog this week (sorry all). So, instead here’s another couple of words from Mister C… Enjoy…

In the lounge room, Mister C was watching T.V. and called out, “What’s for tea tonight, Mummy?” Smiling, I called out from the kitchen, “Oh, I think we’re having snags and mash, my son.” Mister C giggled and replied, “Yay! I love glizzys, Mummy!” Walking into the lounge room to get something, I replied, “Oh, right. What’s a glizzy then?” Mister C looked up and smiled, “Oh, don’t you know, Mummy, glizzys are really yummy sausages!” Both laughed…

Picking up Mister C from school (prior to the accident earlier last year), Mister C moaned and grumbled, “Gee, I’m really starving hungry now, Mummy!” Looking in the rear-view mirror, I replied, “Did you eat some of your lunch, my son?” Mister C was rubbing his stomach and said, “Oh, no, I wasn’t hungry then, but I am now!” I nodded and then said, “Okay, why don’t we stop off at the servo (service station) and pick up some fresh donuts and a packet of biscuits for avo tea then?” Mister C grinned and said, “Yes, please! We need to eat lots and lots of donuts. Donuts keep us strong and out of the grave, Mummy”…

A Word from Mister C…

While on our trip away to the Gong (the week before), Mister C’s wish was to go back to the fun arcade place near ‘Taco Bell’ and to also have tea there afterwards. In the car with Dad driving, Mister C said, “I really want to win as many ‘tickets’ as I can, to get a really cool prize.” We agreed to go to the arcade, Flossy wasn’t as keen to go, but we went along; all agreeing everyone was able to do something they wanted to do on this trip. Promising Flossy we wouldn’t be there too long, we agreed to go to the café area and have a cool drink after a few games. We saw a game where you had to bash the flashing button with a big mallet, to see how high the flashing light could go up to win tickets. I called out to Mister C to have a turn, Mister C came over and said, “I can play this game, Mummy. I’m now double digits and twice as strong as last year. I’ll win it, I bet!” Mister C hit the button and the lights flashed up to the very top and then dropped back down to about half-way, scoring twenty points. Mister C sighed and said, “Oops! I didn’t know my own strong super-strength after all. I think I hit the spot too hard!” All laughed… 🦾

Stay tuned…

Flossy and I have been working together on completing the black and white illustrations for our new upcoming book project, which is now well underway- is a little exciting! I promise to post a few images as a sneak preview over the coming weeks in the blogs. Me and Mister C look forward to attending the Rotary Markets book stall in our local town next month. Husband and Mister C are on their way up to sunny QLD, I’m sure they both will have some funny stories to share about their trip away together. Remember, if you like reading our blogs each fortnight, please find the subscribers section further down on our website page and why not sign up to receive the blogs via your email- sounds good don’t you think?! Stay well and happy holidays to all. Hugs Me and Mister C… 🙂

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
