Hello… It’s us- Mister C and Me…

Well, hello… Another fortnight is now upon us; I am getting quite good at typing this blog with just my left hand… What strange weather patterns and rains that are still persisting everywhere in our states at present. There really has been SO much rain in our community and area, most lower parts of our property are like a sludgy marsh at present, our poor chooks have been washed out again, the sandy floor with both the enclosed part & the girl’s shed we replaced only months ago, has all but disappeared again… Our thoughts continue to go out to everyone who is still being affected by the ongoing flood areas & damage, to properties & businesses in both NSW & Victoria (and surrounding areas)- hang in there…

It was of course Halloween on the 31st October (a week ago), Flossy desperately wanted to buy the ‘Penny Wise’ (creepy) clown mask & costume from the scary Stephen King movie ‘It’. Flossy spent several hours scouring some online sites for the right size and costs; it was really what she wanted, so she agreed for the outfit to be an early Xmas gift, and we agreed to pay for most of the cost. Dad helped her to order the right sized mask & outfit, and for the parcel to be delivered in time for her Halloween event. Mister C also wanted a new costume to wear for Halloween & for future school dress-up events, so Dad also kindly took Mister C down to our local mall & Mister C chose some good items to make up a fun (& scary) outfit (thanks love). Dad also bought some fun treats & decorations, so we could also decorate the dining room with fake cobwebs & black spiders (was fun). We don’t usually celebrate this particular event (not thinking walking to strange houses at night in search of treats is very safe or beneficial for kid’s teeth), but seeing how we were all at home & I wasn’t up to going out anywhere, it was nice to spend time together & brighten the mood a little (a bit of sugar always helps?). Flossy ended up going to a friend’s house after tea & did a bit of ‘trick or treating’ (in between the wild rain storm), while Widy went out with some friends later too.

Me and Mister C also wanted to acknowledge the horrific Halloween crowd surge disaster that occurred in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. It is now believed that more than one hundred and fifty people have now lost their lives and dozens more are also injured. On viewing the news on social media, the following day after our local Halloween festivities, Husband & I were both so very shocked to see this tragedy unfolding. Our thoughts and wishes are with everyone affected over this very difficult time…

Thank-you to everyone for the ongoing well wishes since our car accident, your kindness means a lot to us over these difficult & at times extremely trying times. Now five weeks on, I am sadly still experiencing much pain & issues with ongoing injuries to my head, neck, right shoulder & hip area. I managed to get an urgent appointment with one of our brilliant local Orthopaedic Specialists in town (thanks so very much), who was quite concerned regarding my initial treatment & ongoing injuries. I am to have another MRI on Monday evening in ACT & attend another review with my specialist towards the end of this week. I will admit, I have been managing my ongoing mental health, and am grateful to continue to have the ‘Telehealth’ reviews with my Psychologist most fortnights. I just wanted to take this time to say how grateful I am to my Husband (my rock) & family for their ongoing love & patience, without you I would be nothing (and most likely in a soggy ditch somewhere)- I sure do appreciate you all!

Amongst my ongoing health issues, it has been quite a busy time in our household; our sweet doggie ‘Rhetti’ (aka ‘Mr Magoo’) turned the big ten on the 1st November. The kids & I thought it might be fun to throw ‘Rhetti’ a little doggie party, to celebrate the milestone with some special doggie treats. Flossy helped me make a few signs to put up around the dining area (yes, I know dogs can’t read!) and Husband kindly drove us (thanks rock) to pick up a few healthy doggie snacks & a doggie party box- filled with a doggie party hat, carob biscuits & yoghurt drops (his favourite). Of course, ‘Rhetti’ had to get a bath, brush & nail file to have a spruce-up for the occasion- of which flossy had to do most of the work (thanks sweet heart-you’re the best), as my right arm is mostly out of action these days.

We thought we’d better weigh ‘Rhetti’ the wonder chihuahua too (has been a while) & noted he was a little chubby around his neck & sides, after putting on quite a bit of weight since he had joined our family back in early January (after our dear ‘Duggie’ had passed at the end of last year). “Wow, Mum!” Flossy exclaimed, “Rhetti has put on nearly two kilos!” Goodness, I thought, then said, “We best put him on a diet straight after his b’day then!” Flossy nodded her head in agreement. Now a week on, ‘Rhetti’ is looking very sprightly & happy, he has lost at least six hundred gms & is doing well. Mister C reminded us that Rhetti is only twenty days older than him and that it was his tenth birthday very soon too! (But we all know that age is really about seventy years in dog years…hoping Rhetti will be living to at least 100!).

Along with this party, we also tried to celebrate Melbourne Cup Day, with Granny coming up to spend the afternoon together with us. Husband diligently made a few place bets for himself & I, and was very chuffed that he had won a few placings (and a few dollars too). Granny also attended Mister C’ ‘s school with both Husband & I for his special Grandparent’s Day and Art Exhibition event that was happening at the school (thanks so much for coming up Granny- we love you!). It was actually really lovely having someone to sit with and watch the big race this year; in the past, I usually recorded the race and watched it after the school pick-up run…

A Word from Mister C…

Getting ready for the beach during our trip to the ‘Gong’ (earlier in the year), Dad asked Mister C to get his swimmers on. Mister C jumped up & grabbed his cozzies and said, “Yes, Dad, I love the beach!” Dad smiled and replied, “Yes, we do; but we also need some sunscreen on too, my son.” Mister C frowned, “Oh, no, Dad! I don’t want any yuk sunscreen; it feels really slimy on my face.” Dad frowned back and replied, “You need protection from the sun. Did you know, your head can even burn through your red hair on your scalp? The sun really burns, my son.” Mister C sighed and said, “Okay then, Dad; can you please help me put it on?” Dad nodded and helped Mister C with the sunscreen, rubbing it on his neck, arms and legs; “Okay all done,” Dad smiled, “You’re now on fire, and you’ll be able to come out into the sun like there’s no tomorrow!” Mister C rolled his eyes then grinned, both laughed together…😏

Stay tuned…

Great news! Our new sixth book is now complete & at the printers as I write this blog today (phew!). I am a little overwhelmed by this, as I really didn’t think it was going to be achievable post car accident a number of weeks ago. I say a BIG thank-you to my family, editor, designer & YOU- the readers for helping to make it all happen… We are all set for the release date for the 10th November 2022 (is a little exciting) and hopefully a few days later (week at most) for online orders and distribution through our various channels like Amazon, Books 2 Read, Barnes & Noble & Ingram Spark etc. We are very excited to share our next Mister C book series with you all… 🤸‍♂️

Me and Mister C will attending the lovely Binda Primary School (near Crookwell) on Tuesday afternoon, to attend a special book reading at this school. We had committed to this event prior to our accident; I am grateful Widy is able to take some time off school, in order to drive both Mister C & I there and back, so we can fulfill our commitments (thanks heaps Widy). We are also hopeful to attend the local Rotary Market stall that is also booked for this Saturday (12.11.22); our new book will be available to purchase, as signed author copies at our stall (please excuse the blue sling, possible neck brace & tired eyes on the day). Please come up & say hi- we love that! We do hope to share a bit of sunshine too… We had also committed to attend the wonderful Bungendore Library at the end of the week as well (is it too much?), so, we are also trying to fulfill our commitments there as well (thanks Husband for driving & helping with set-ups on these days too). Hugs always, Mister C and Me… 🙌

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
