Hi y’all! It’s Mister C and Me…

Firstly, Me and Mister C wish to acknowledge the sad passing our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. Such a shock to hear and see on social media, and news channels around the world of this very sad news indeed. Our Queen was the longest serving Monarch in British history (and our Australian history too); I have very fond memories of seeing the Queen in person during her visit to Australia in 1988, to open our New Parliament House (and other occasions on social media). We will always remember her as one of the greatest leaders of all time. The Queen was not only a great leader, but a lady of class, prestige and grace, while remaining strong, humble and selfless.

It was noted on social media (video footage) hours after the Queen’s passing, of some white clouds in the sky above Buckingham Palace resembling the Queen’s face, along with a vivid rainbow painted across the sky as well- how very fitting for such a wonderful Queen!? It is a very sad time as the world mourns a great leader. The Queen has been a part of all of our lives for a very long time (seventy years to be exact) and will be so very missed (RIP our beloved Queen). Naturally the girls and Mister C (and Husband too) were also shocked and sad to see the news. Mister C said, “Oh, Mummy I’m really sad about our Queen, I don’t think anyone could run the world as good as she did. I don’t think any king could do it better!” He frowned and gave me a hug, then went to get the large scented candle from the glass cabinet; we lit the lovely candle in remembrance of our Queen and kept it glowing for many days.

Not only did we lose our beloved Queen, we also sadly lost three of our sweet chook girls last week. That pesky (horrid) fox unfortunately came back through onto our property again; it managed to scale the three-metre-high fence, by climbing up an old bush (breaking a branch too) and got into the secure area near the chook shed. We say a sad farewell to not only our Queen, but our special girls ‘Lahlah’, ‘Fudge’ and ‘Teressa’ (RIP)- thanks for the cuddles and yummy eggs too. I have managed to purchase another auto chook door (online) and plan to install it over the next day or two, so our girls (and some new chooks soon) will be extra (ultra) safe from now on; goodness knows that rotten (persistent) fox will not doubt be back…

Moving along, we now say a big hi y’all from the United States of America (USA), via their American- English language this week. Thank-you to everyone who has recently visited our blog site and read some of our blogs; our stats are up and the winner of the highest views from one country is the USA! I wanted to send out a cheery hi y’all to our special family and friends in Texas and surrounding areas (on Husband’s side of the family); we love you and thanks for supporting our website and for also purchasing some of our books. It means the world to us and we are so thrilled we are reaching many countries around our glorious globe. I visited the US back in early 2008 with Husband, who had visited many times before (we were engaged then); I was over six months pregnant with Flossy and have very fond memories of our trip around California, Texas and glorious Hawaii to see family and friends; we hope to go back some time very soon with the kids.

We attended our first Goulburn Parkside Markets last Saturday week. We had a fabulous time meeting some wonderful people and even selling (and donated) some of our Mister C books! Thanks so much to Rotary Goulburn for having us and for helping save our lightweight marquee, while securing it down well with borrowed weights (a little embarrassing!). Thanks for putting up with us newbies; I can report, I have now since purchased a heavy-duty marquee and weights for next time! Having attended a few stalls in ACT earlier in the year, I wasn’t quite prepared for the strange weather and gusts of wind that is renowned for our town area (I should have known). We look forward to attending the next stall early October and great news, we have secured a stall site for the upcoming Goulburn Lilac Festival on Saturday 1st October (so much fun). Make sure you and your family try (if in the local area) and come down for a great weekend of fun and family time (let’s hope the sun will shine brightly for us that day too!).

The girls have been working hard to complete their assessment pieces and exams these past weeks, Flossy has had enough of school and wants to stay in her warm bed this week. The poor thing injured her right leg while playing her soccer game two weeks ago. It was tricky for Flossy to walk, so I found Husband’s old crutches and fitted them to size for Flossy so she could mobilise gently around the house during her time off school. Flossy had an ultrasound and had a GP review, nothing too sinister, but took two weeks or so for her to regain strength and for the pain to lessen in order to go back to school and normal duties (things always happen at once in our world). Well done sweetheart for getting though a tough time and getting back to school and soccer training (not long to go now).

Widy has been working hard at school and her workplace, saving lots of cashola for her upcoming trip to QLD, early October with her school year group (so much fun will be had). Widy attended her dental review after complaining about pain in her back jaw; dental x-rays later showed her four wisdom teeth are growing sideways (really!) and are pushing her other teeth and jaw forward. So, she has a review due this week with an Oral-Dental Specialist in ACT to arrange removal of these huge nasty teeth (hopefully in the summer school hols, so as not to impinge on her year twelve studies). Having already been through the journey of braces and expanders to move her crooked teeth and expand her slim jaw, Widy is not looking forward to the prospect of having more dental work done and the possibility of more braces to correct the damage now caused by the ginormous moving teeth (sorry bank account!).

Mister C is growing-up so fast- I can’t believe how tall he is now! He is now more committed to his school work and is also improving everyday his writing and listening skills (so good). Mister C even spent some time with his primary school’s Principle to show his good work (well done!); he loves his school teacher and has been having a fairly good year so far (thanks). Mister C is also super excited at the prospect of turning double digits very soon (where has the time flown?) and has stipulated what he wants to do with his friends on his actual birthday weekend. Of course, every morning Mister C counts down the days (and weeks) until he does actually turn the big ten. We are so very proud of the young man he is turning in to and for Mister C (and all of us) getting through some tough months of him exhibiting some behavioural issues at home and school- to now seeing this happy (and zany) boy growing-up so well (our hearts are full) …

A Word from Mister C…

“Hey, Mummy!” Mister C called out while he sneezed in the rumpus room (earlier in the year). “What’s that stuff growing on the side of the wall, near the floor?” Mister C began to sneeze again. “Oh, what’s that, my son,” I said, walking back into the rumpus room. “Oh, there, Mummy. It looks like an animal on the wall. Is it moving?” Leaning down towards the wall, I replied, “Oh, no! it looks like the mould is back, my son.” Putting my hands on my head, I shook my head and moaned, “Darn that flood, now we’re growing mould where the ground water came gushing in under the foundations back at the beginning of the year. You best go back upstairs, my son. I don’t want you to get sick from any of it!” Mister C stood up and nodded, “Okay, Mummy. This room makes me sneeze like the green grass outside. I thought it was a strange animal; it grows on everything, it’s just like moss – but yuckier!” … 👀

Stay tuned…

For more Mister C nearly ten (silly) stories, we look forward to some rest form school routine and some chill-out mornings in our PJ’s, with the upcoming school holidays next week (where has the term gone?). We also look forward to our next Rotary Parkside Market coming up early October (08.10.22) and our next book reading event at the fabulous Braidwood Library on Wednesday 12.10.22 (that’s going be a busy week?). We make plans for Mister C’s upcoming tenth birthday celebrations mid-November and the luck boy will be travelling with Husband back to QLD early December for another visit with family there as an early Xmas gift for both (how lucky?). Hugs Mister C… 🙂

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
