A Dad’s Day hello from Mister C and Me…

Hi there, we hope you and your loved ones are staying well and safe. It was Father’s Day (Dad’s Day according to Mister C) on Sunday (in our part of the world). Me and Mister C hope you had a special day spending time with your fathers, stepfathers grandfathers and godfathers (and everyone in between). As I have written over the years, Father’s Day is always a tough day for me (and others like me), with not having both my dad and my fix-it dad here to spend time and hug once more- it can be quite hard to get through the day. It is tough for Husband too (a rare similarity between us), not having his dear dad here as well. We lit a lovely scented candle for most the day on Sunday, in remembrance of our special Dads and for all the other missing Dad’s too (forever missed K.S, J.VG & B.L). Later in the night, Mister C looked up to the ceiling and called out, “I love you Opa, Mummy’s dad and Dad’s dad, he took a deep breath and blew out the candle and then ran off to get ready for bed.

Having written this though, we always celebrate Husband (Dad) and shower him with gifts of love made by Mister C and when the girls were younger (now mostly a block of ‘Toblerone’ and a hearty hug). Mister C was most excited about the prospect of doing something fun with Dad and buying his dad a gift from his local school’s Father’s Day stall, and to also make an extra special card to go with the gift. Husband and Mister C went to the movies together the day before Father’s Day, Mister C was pleased Dad was able to go with him and spend some quality time together (that’s what it’s all about?). This word from Mister C sums the morning up nicely…

Mister C was chatting with Dad about Father’s Day, I heard Mister C promise to make Dad breakfast in bed for the following day, as it was going to be Dad’s Day. Husband seemed chuffed that Mister C had agreed to make him toast with ‘Vegemite’ on one piece and on the other ‘cinnamon sugar’ (his favourite). The following morning, I woke up to the sounds of little footsteps walking around in the kitchen (is directly above our bed area); it was still quite early. A few minutes later I heard footsteps down the stairs and the door open, it was Mister C who then appeared holding a tray in his hands. “Hi, Dad,” Mister C said smiling, “I’ve brought you your breakky in bed for you. Happy Dad’s Day too!” Dad had been fast asleep snoring, he sat up quickly and then muttered something. He looked up and saw Mister C grinning down at him. “Oh, wow, my son. I love it, thank-you! But it is still quite early for breakky though.” I rolled over and looked at my black clock radio and saw it was just past 0715am. I smiled at Mister C and muttered, “Thanks, my son,” and rolled over, falling back to sleep. What a nice start to Dad’s Day for our dad…

It was also International Dog’s Day last week (26.08.22), Me and Mister C was super excited to know this event as well. This next word from Mister C also sums up the situation…

Hearing on the radio that it was International Dog’s Day, I called out to Mister C, “Hey, did you know it’s all Dog’s Day today, my son?!” Mister C came running upstairs and began clapping his hands. He replied, “Wow, I love International Dog’s and Dog’s Day, Mummy! What do we have to do today?” He then asked, looking a bit puzzled. “Well, we have to love our best doggie friends all day and let them know we love them as much as they love us- unconditionally.” Mister C nodded and replied, ‘Well, I love our ‘Rhetti’ doggie and I’m going to give him one hundred hugs, to celebrate all the doggies I know and have ever met!” Smiling, I replied, “Wow, that’s a lot of hugs, my son. Do you know that many dogs?” Mister C smiled back, “Oh yes, Mummy. I know more doggies, but they were all in my dreams!” Giving our ‘Rhetti’ a gentle doggie cuddle, Mister C then patted him on the head. Mister C then laid down on the rug and floor right next to our sweet doggie and began to sing to him… 💖🐶

A Word from Mister C…

Driving back from Sydney in the blue car (earlier in the year), Flossy was in the front seat and Mister C was in the back. A huge truck went rumbling past and a small rock flew up at the same time and hit our windscreen. It made a loud crack sound; Flossy and I both gasped, then we all jumped in our seats. “Oh, no!” I moaned, “That did crack the windscreen- just my bad luck!” The next day, Mister C had great delight watching the crack grow bigger, as it began to inch down the side and then across the window. I had no choice but to book the car in to have the windscreen repaired. The following day I said to Mister C, “I bet I will have a month of bad luck now, my son.” Mister C nodded, then sighed, “I hope not, Mummy, you don’t need any more bad things to happen.” Smiling he then continued, “How does the windscreen get fixed anyway? It must take at least eight big blokes to push the window on with their bare hands- I bet pushing with their legs and feet first!” Both giggled 😏

Stay tuned…

For more zanier stories, as Mister C and Me with the family head into Spring and warmer months, and to be able to spend more time outside with nature and our beautiful local wildlife. I just realised that our sweet ‘Rhetti’ doggie will be turning ten around the same time as Mister C (how uncanny). So, there’ll be lots of turning ten stories coming up for both Mister C and our precious best friend doggie too. Great news, I have just completed the cover illustrations for our next sixth children’s book (is getting more exciting). I thought I’d upload a copy of the cover illustration to share; of course, my designer (thanks L.F) will need to work her magic to create a neat cover for the book- what do you all think?

Also, Me and Mister C look forward to reading and sharing our books, as a part of the great Book Week events around our town, with the wonderful students and teachers at Goulburn North Primary School this Tuesday (6.09.22)! Mister C is most excited to be attending the event too and seeing some of his old friends. Don’t forget, Me and Mister C have also been able to secure a stall at the fabulous Rotary Parkside Markets beginning this Saturday (10.09.22)! We are very excited to join this fun group and look forward to seeing some familiar (local) faces there too. Checkout or Face Book page with details and times there, it’s all happening…🙌

I also wanted to let all know that I have started to pursue another personal (and a more mature) writing dream of mine. I have applied for a fellowship to an NSW Writing institution (a wonderful organisation), where I hope to pursue another manuscript focused mainly on poetry, that I wrote during some difficult and traumatic experiences in my life. I was able to successfully cull (a lot of work there) and compile the thirty years of poetry work, while successfully submit the manuscript and covering work last week (I know- that is a lot of poetry!). I must admit, I did have a day of fear (and a little stress too), worried the writing was not good enough, but then felt the manuscript was worthy to be submitted to the program after having my editors’ support. I wish to send out a very heartfelt thank-you to my amazing editor, who took time out of her own busy writing schedule to help me (thanks so much M.A). Fingers crossed, I may be in the running- or worst-case scenario, I will endeavour to produce and publish this next dream of mine, through my own self-publishing (Indie) tools.

A little housekeeping… Unfortunately, as a result of the new endeavour and with all this extra writing going on, I had to look at ways to juggle life, the family, work and this blog work. After a heartfelt DMC with Husband (thanks my rock), I was able to reduce my nursing work hours down a day a fortnight (thanks for the understanding there) and have also decided (but not easily mind you) to reduce the blog to once a fortnight, with a fortnightly blog site update (on the following week) as well. I apologise to our regular and committed readers, I know you will all understand. I sincerely hope to have this next idea develop into fruition and believe it will make a part-time writer (with a big passion) into a very happy (and still passionate) full-time writer… Hugs Me and Mister C 💕

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
