Hi there, it’s Me and Mister C

Hello… Mister C and I hope you are keeping warm, away from the chilly windy weather these past few days. Hopefully, there’s still a couple more weeks of some warmer days, until the looming cold Winter months arrive on our door steps (maybe even some snow again this year?). School (un)officially started back this week; there has been a lot of interest regarding this on social media. It is personal topic, and one for families to work out what is best for them and their children; while moving forward into the next phase of ‘living’ at present. Husband and I being essential workers (no choice at present), decided end of last term to have the kids attend school when I worked (part-time). This first week, Mister C and Flossy attended two days, and Widy at high school attended one. It was good for them to see some of their friends, and to get out of the house! I was pleased with the communication from all three schools regarding the (‘bug thing’ as Mister C calls it) virus, and what each school was doing regarding the social distancing etc. It is a difficult time, with changes happening at the drop of a hat… When I went to pick up Mister C from school on Wednesday afternoon; there was a notice at the front gate, saying no parent was to enter the grounds (there was also a notice at the gate of Flossy’s school too, but with Flossy being older it wasn’t such an issue). I instantly became worried; we were not aware of this change, and Mister C did not know where to meet! I saw another parent run in to get their child; so, I had no choice but to run in too (sorry!). I saw Mister C and waved to him, thankfully I found him quickly, as it was cold and raining that afternoon…

Before we go back to 2015, I wanted to dedicate part of this blog to our sweet Flossy, who is turning the BIG twelve next week (Wednesday). I recall, how happy Husband and I were (and a bit nervous after my first experience, with Widy being born so premature) on finding out we were expecting Flossy (back in mid-2007); how contented and utterly happy we both were, on meeting our perfect sweet Flossy when she was born (May 2008- one week early). I recall her high-pitched squeals when being changed (didn’t like anything over her little head); while years later running around the house, with just a scarf around her head, squealing in delight with her ever-so-caring big sister, Widy in tow behind her! To again later, with in-tune singing squeals in the car to ‘Hi-5’ happy songs and angelic sounds to our favourite ‘Queen’ numbers all around the house (we LOVE your constant humming, singing and piano playing Flossy!)…

This past week Flossy has said a few noteworthy things, and we decided to call them ‘Flossy funnies’. (“What Mum? Aren’t you doing the blog about me anymore?!”, was Mister C’s response). So, I had a fifty dollar voucher, that was to expire at the end of the week from IKEA (I know, any excuse to go?); I took one of the girls for a quick trip, and bought Mister C his new loft bed (early birthday gift) (very exciting, until I had to build the thing!). The girls (and Mister C for a few seconds) helped me hold some of the parts of the bed, and helped with the instructions (was a bit tricky). Flossy was sitting on the floor looking at some of the tools and said, “So, Mum; is this an Aaron key, you are using to build the bed with?” Widy and I burst out laughing, and couldn’t stop for many minutes (was very funny at the time of our deep concentration). “No love”, I laughed; “It’s an Allen key!” Wrong name for that kinda key, my sweet floss!…

The next day, Flossy was mesmerised on the tablet (again) looking at a ‘palm reading’ app (don’t ask me, I didn’t even know it existed online!); I saw her put her hand over the tablet, she seemed pleased it did something- I guess read her palm (a bit iffy?). Anyway, she made a high-pitched sound and called out, “I have a wood hand!” (don’t ask me what that means?); her little finger (pinky) meant something, and she called out happily, “Wow! I am going to have smart children!” Flossy then commented, “I am happy that I will have smart children, but I don’t like my ‘wood hand’ with lumpy fingers!” (She doesn’t have lumpy fingers, rather long slender ones!)…

On Monday last week, Flossy quietly asked me if her ‘lady business’ was due over her birthday. I discreetly looked it up on the calendar, and meekly saw that it was (unfortunately) due the same time as her day. I thought best not to say anything (as Flossy could get moody- naturally!); but then thought it best to tell her, so she was prepared. I quietly told Flossy the it was due around the same time, but not to worry about it, as it always works out for the best. Days later, Flossy came up to me and quietly said, “Mum, I asked God not to get my ‘lady business’ on my birthday, and guess what? It came early!” “Oh dear, Flossy; not good”, I said. “But, better earlier than over your birthday. How did you do that? In all my years, I have never been able to will my lady business early, ever!”… “Oh, well, Mum; you know, I did actually pray to God, and it DID come true!”…

Okay, moving back to 2015… So, our zany boy had just turned the BIG three! We had a family lunch at the club the following Sunday (thanks all!), which was really nice; got home and I think we all collapsed on the couch for the remainder of the day… Still in amazement as to where the time had flown; Mister C was nearly fully toilet trained, but still thought he was ‘Batman’ (or But-man as he joked with Daddy). Husband commented,”We bought Mister C his first big boy undies (‘Batman’ logo of course!) a couple of weeks ago, he looked so cute… But after he had a little accident and wee’d on the floor, as we were trying to get out of the door in the morning; I went back to pull ups! I have to say Mister C’s vocabulary is brilliant, he has started saying ‘dangerous’ and ‘interesting’; not bad for a toddler who’s just turned three!”…

We move forward (trying to forget about the funds we lost) from the horrid debacle of losing the first property; in between work and the kids, we look at many other properties for sale. We see a few we like, but nothing that ticks all the boxes; until we meet another agent (thank-you!) who shows us a nice four-bedroom house in a quiet cul-de-sac, in the new area of town (at a good price for our budget too). The kids and I, really wanted to have something to look forward to, going into the New year; so, I spent many hours (to Husband’s dismay) discussing the pros and cons of buying a property. We really had to get out of the rental we were in; it was a good plan to move earlier in the year (I thought!), with my new Grad program commencing end of January (Yay! I got in!), four days a week nursing at the Base. We decide to put an offer in for the four-bedroom property (our loan had already been approved); later that afternoon, the offer was accepted with a small amount of negotiating. Yay! We had just agreed on a property to buy, two days before Christmas! The five of us were very happy, what a great Chrissy present that was after all…

A word from Mister C…

At the dinner table tonight, Mister C looked curiously at Dad and said, “Your face is smooth today; don’t shave tomorrow, where your moustache is meant to be.” … “Why is that, my son?” Daddy smiled. “Because Daddy, you can clean the tables with your moustache, didn’t you know?!” Everyone started laughing (not much food was eaten)… Mister C loves to read silly stories at bed-time (which can take a while); last night (and most nights when Dad is not away), Mister C spent several minutes choosing the right book; once decided, Mister C said, “I’m ready Daddy; remember to read it in YOUR silly voice.” … “Yes, my son, I remember”, Dad said in his silly voice; “I like ‘Iron Man’; his armour is made out of toilet rolls and foil!” They both laughed and then Dad said, “It’s time for my back cracking, my son!” So, this involves Dad lying face down on the carpet floor, while Mister C (carefully) steps on Dad’s back; then counts how many times, he can hear Dad’s lower back crack under his feet. It all sounds quite silly (and annoying at times), particularly when you’re in another room. I then heard Dad say, “Be careful you don’t jump on me, or I may end up in a wheelchair, my son!”…

Stay tuned…

More silly stories and our BIG adventure through Tasmania to come- lots of stories to tell there… We finally make it to January 2016!…

Just to note, I have set up a new menu called ‘Flossy’s Poem Corner’ on the top of the blog. Flossy is a budding writer (maybe takes after her Mum?) and she showed me some of her first poetry; how could I resist not putting it up on the blog? (I did ask her first, Flossy said yes!) I asked Widy if she wanted to contribute to the new menu page; she shook her head and said, “No, it was a job to get me to write the poetry, and I’m not showing it to anyone!”…

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
