It’s a chilly hello from Mister C and Me…

A warm hello to our avid readers and a big hello to our new readers! We hope you are staying well and warm, while keeping away from all of those crappy bugs going around at present on our side of the world. We welcome our new readers to our blog site. Me has been writing about our children’s and poetry books, family, events, some community and global events, while also raising a family with its issues (good or bad) since late 2019. Now writing a blog fortnightly and updating the widgets on the site regularly, such as our Book Updates, Words from Mister C and Dream Diary, we hope you can continue to enjoy reading and viewing our site. If there is anything you think should be changed or added to the site, please let us know. We are more than happy to keep improving the site and with your feedback this is a great way to do so…

Firstly, Me and Mister C wish to send our heartfelt thoughts to the families and communities that have been affected by the devastating bus tragedy unfolding over the past two days. We are all in shock by this tragedy and offer our condolences to the families who have sadly and unnecessarily lost a loved one. Our thoughts and wishes go out to all involved. According to media channels, it is the worst bus crash and disaster since three decades ago in NSW, occurring in October and then two months later in December 1989. Husband and I both recalled these horrific accidents, while watching the news on one media channel last night (so awful). According to one media site, “The Greta bus crash occurred on 11 June 2023 when a bus overturned at Greta, New South Wales, Australia. The bus was transferring guests from a wedding at Lovedale to Singleton. Ten people were killed and another twenty-five were taken to hospital.” https://www.google.com/searchq=bus+crash+hunter+valley&rlz=1C1CHBF_en

I am happy to report Husband (and I) made it through the big 5-0 party and celebrations last weekend. Thankfully it all went ahead without a hitch; all our guests (and a few add ons) had a great time and we all celebrated the milestone for Husband well into the early hours of the morning. The memorable moments of the night were Husband’s funny anecdote speech and his noodle dance! We wanted to personally thank everyone for attending the night and for the lovely (and funny) cards and gifts for Husband- he was very spoilt! We also wanted to send out a big thank-you to dear my sister for coming down from Sydney for the weekend (love you C.M), along with Husband’s dear Bro for making it down from Qld (hiya! B.L) and to our close friends for coming from Melbourne and Bungendore too (thanks S & M).

It is always great to be able to let our hair down sometimes. Most know I am not a big drinker, but sometimes it is well needed (and deserved) to let one’s hair down and let the silliness in! It is good for the soul and mind to just let it all go… I can assure you though my shoulder, hip and lower back did complain bitterly (such intense pain!) for nearly a whole week after the little bit of dancing and frolicking around the city I did (and others) do. Thanks also my dear friend S.M (and my sister) for entertaining the dancer in me and braving the dance floor with the funny (and gentlemen) group of sailors too; it will remain a memorable night for years to come. So, here’s to another ten years, my rock, my Husband (here’s to turning the next big 6-0!), not to mention it will be my turn to join the ‘fifties club’ early next year (arrg!)…

Sadly, we are the house of sickness again this past week or more (must be our turn again), with our poor Widy quite unwell with the dreaded Covid bugs and chest infection. With her prematurity (born twenty-five weeks) and her ongoing Chronic Lung Disease and health issues, we have had to keep a very close eye on her. I ended up calling the ambulance for support with her difficult breathing and chest tightness on Saturday night. Husband and I wanted to send out a warm thank you to the two wonderful and knowledgeable ambulance officers, who stayed with Widy for over an hour and a half, supporting her so well. We sincerely appreciate the support, guidance and advice; Widy is now slowly on the mend with the antivirals prescribed by our GP on Sunday afternoon (thanks so much), and is still isolating comfortably in her room downstairs. Hopefully Widy will not need a trip to A&E at our local hospital, but I am still keeping a close eye on her symptoms and breathing. We love you Widy, and know you’ve got this.

So, along with poor Widy being so unwell, Flossy also contracted another viral infection (URTI) over the weekend as well and unfortunately gave it to me (is so contagious). I can report (fingers crossed) we have both since tested negative twice on our RAT tests for Covid, but sadly, a close school friend of Widy’s and his brother have now contracted the horrid bugs. The virus is menacing and has spread throughout Widy’s year twelve group at the high school very rapidly. We only hope Widy can rest and recover this week and will be up and about for next week, to commence her HCS trials shortly and catch up on her major work and schoolwork as soon as she is better (you can do it!).

As I write, my head and ears hurt a little, my nose is quite blocked and I have an annoying cough (along with my ongoing right shoulder, hip and lower back injuries); having written this, I will only be able to manage a shortened version of the blog this fortnight (please accept my sincere apologies). To make up for this, I wanted to share another Word from Mister C instead… Enjoy and thanks for your understanding. Hugs Me and Mister C….

It had been quite a stressful afternoon for Widy (and us) who was unwell in her room downstairs, along with the Ambulance officers who stayed with her for over an hour. I made sure Widy was comfortable and had what she needed to rest, including one of the walkie-talkies, so she could easily ask for things she might need. Husband was very helpful and made Flossy and Mister C crispy nuggets with sweet corn and bread rolls for a late tea upstairs. Mister C sat down at the dining table and said, “Ooh, this tea looks just like my favourite tea ever, Dad. Thanks!” Mister C went to take a bite into one of the golden nuggets, he made a gasp sound and spat out the piece of nugget into his left hand. “Oh, gosh, I think I just lost a tooth in my nugget!” Dad looked over and gasped, “Oh, my son, you sure did!” Dad looked inside Mister C’s mouth and exclaimed, “There’s a big red gap where your tooth was!” Mister C looked a bit in shock and found his tooth buried in the piece of nugget. “Gee, I thought I could only lose a tooth in a juicy apple, now I can lose one in my nuggets- wow!” I walked back into the room and Mister C showed me his baby tooth. “Wow, the Tooth Fairy will be visiting our house again tonight!” Mister C nodded and smiled, “Gee, I’m super glad I didn’t swallow the tooth, that was close! Maybe the Tooth Fairy will also visit Widy and help her to feel better too?” I shrugged my shoulders and replied, “Who knows my son, the Fairy can do all kinds of things- we know!” All giggled…

A Word from Mister C…

Mister C was getting something out of the fridge and then suddenly jumped happily around the room (last year). “What you doing, my son?” I asked, smiling. “You got ants in your pants, or something?!” Mister C grinned and replied, “Oh, no, Mummy, I am super excited about our surprise holiday. It’s a week away today we get to fly away on the plane to our surprise destination. Can you please tell me where we are going? I promise not to tell the girls the secret!” Smiling I replied, “No, my son, that will ruin the big surprise for you and everyone. You’ll just have to wait.” Mister C frowned and then nodded, “Okay , Mummy, I guess that would ruin the surprise after all. I will try to wait with all my might then!” He continued to jump around the lounge room and pretended to fly in a big jumbo aeroplane as he called out different country destinations… ✈️

Stay tuned…

Me and Mister C look forward to a well-earned rest over the next month or so through Winter. I most likely won’t be attending the next Rotary bookstall in early July, as my shoulder, hip and lower back really don’t like the freezing cold mornings at present. It was lovely to see some familiar and new faces at our last bookstall on Saturday. I will be commencing the second book to our fun, ‘A Word From Mister C: A Little Book Of Stories’ manuscript shortly and will commence the illustrations soon afterwards (if my left hand will allow me- with the crappy carpal tunnel symptoms I have at present). Our designer is still overseas enjoying the Summer months over there at present (so lucky!), so we should aim to have our seventh children’s book published towards the end of the year (fingers crossed). Hugs to all… Me and Mister C 💕

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
