Hi there… It’s Me and Mister C…

Hiya! Lots more rain over this week; I think we’ve had over another forty mls in our rain-water gauge, before I tipped it over today. WOW! What a huge swirl of storms we had on Monday night; none of us slept very well that night, with all the thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Husband was away (usually is when we have a bad storm-uncanny right?); I ran outside to clear away the debris from our driveway drains and the other drains near the front of the house, getting completely drenched in the process. The next morning (I had finally fallen into a deep sleep early in the morning), Mister C ran upstairs to find some food (I think?) and came running back down straight away (which I thought was weird). He called out, “Mummy, one of our big gum trees is lying on the ground!” Blurry eyed and still half sleep, I muttered something to Mister C and trudged upstairs; to my disbelief, half of one of our beautiful huge grey gums had fallen straight done across the yard- amazingly just missing the side of the house and patio; while to the right the (newish) clothesline… (What were we going to do?).

Second week of school done and dusted… Time goes so quickly; it’s hard to believe we are now in early February (my favourite happy birthday month)- where did January go? (only time knows). I can report, the girls enjoyed their high school’s first event of the year-the annual swimming carnival, that was held at the local pool (they did get a bit sunburnt mind you- after giving them a roll-on bottle to share!). I had purchased Flossy a bright blue (her sport house colour) tutu to wear over her shorts- she looked fabulous! Widy wore her red Hawaiian shirt (from last year) and looked pretty neat too. Mister C informed me on Wednesday, he now has a new classroom teacher and commented, “His new teacher was very nice and the new class room was cool!” So, to me that seemed like a good start to the term (don’t you think?).

I took a reflective moment out of our busy weekend, to fondly remember my dear Dad; it would have been his birthday (this week) early February. I often wonder what we would have been doing together, if he was still here with us; sadly, passing away back in 1995 (seems so long ago now). I fondly remember his bright smile and shining blue eyes… We miss you Dad, I hope you are proud of us, as the grown women and Mothers we have now become-all these years later… It is also my dear Uncle’s birthday this week, and I believe it’s my half-brother’s day soon too (hiya P.P and L.S).

Righto, back to 2018… (are we there yet?) … Husband was getting a bit nervous about his upcoming admission at the local hospital, for his booked procedure; he was due to stay overnight post-surgery, for observation, with monitoring for pain and wound care. The day finally arrived (mid-April), Husband comments, “Surgery day; Wife came home from work at 11am to give me a lift to the hospital (I had to work that day, in order to have the next week off). I waited on the bed trolley in a private room (mostly reading) for another two hours or so; then I was moved to the waiting area outside of theatre for about forty mins or so. I had the procedure and came to, at about four-thirty and was then moved to a shared private room. I was still really groggy; Wife and kids came to visit me at about six-thirty. I wasn’t allowed to eat all night, but secretly ate a handful of those choc pineapple sweets at midnight! (naughty Husband). How bizarre it was, after I was discharged home, with being downstairs in bed for two whole days, before venturing upstairs at home.”… I can report, Husband did well and the surgery was successful; just had to keep reminding Husband to not lift anything, until the wound had healed and he had attended his follow-up appointment with his surgeon (thankyou!). Husband kept referring to his surgery as having ‘chop-chop’, which the kids did eventually groan and complain about (note, it was not THAT surgery- if you know what I mean).

So, approximately a week later, our kitchen renos were due to commence (arrg!); after about a three week wait, for the ordering and making of the new (beautiful) white kitchen cabinets, by our great kitchen company (thanks heaps!). We had prepared ourselves (or tried to anyway) for having no kitchen for about four weeks; but later found out it would probably take more than six weeks (oh no!). Thankfully, we had a small (old) kitchenette downstairs, and we were able to take the microwave and a trolley of plates and crockery downstairs; to use as a make-shift kitchen space over this time (I don’t know why we did this to ourselves!). Husband commented, “Kitchen renovations today and the last few days, looks like half the house has been dumped in our backyard!” We all hoped the new kitchen would look as good as planned, while also be worth (all) the cost involved too (not to mention be completed in time for Flossy’s birthday party- early May) …

Looking back over this time now, I don’t think it was such a big deal as it seemed (we’ve always worked through tougher times in the past). But, with Husband still recovering from his procedure and not able to drive, or carry anything heavy for many weeks; plus, the kids and my work (I was able to have one week off – which was better than nothing). I had planned to patch the new gyprock walls and re-paint the ceiling in the kitchen myself; while also re-paint the chook shed area too (maybe I had bitten off more than I could chew?); I will admit, it did end up being a fairly stressful and busy time after all…

A Word from Mister C…

Dad and Mister C were talking outside in the backyard, while kicking the soccer ball to each other. “Dad?” asked Mister C, kicking the soccer ball to Dad; “Did you know, if you set an alarm clock to go off and bury it with someone; they will wake up when it goes off?!” … “Oh, no it won’t, my son,” said Dad laughing, while also looking puzzled. “Yes, it will, Daddy- if it’s loud enough!” …

Stay tuned…

For mid-year silly stories and events. Our kitchen renos move along, but not having a functioning kitchen is getting on our nerves. Mister C has a melt down around Husband’s birthday and gets in trouble at school (oh no!) … Also, please feel free to get in touch with me, if you would like to purchase one of our children’s books. I can be contacted via Facebook or Instagram, my email is ingledlie@gmail.com

Thanks for your continued support. Night from Mister C… 😊

Mister C and I live in a rural town in NSW Australia, with Mister C's Dad and his two big sisters. We have an acreage with an old homestead, that we have been renovating over the past five years (a lot of work!). I am a registered nurse working in private nursing in NSW. I enjoy caring for people in our community, it is a very unique area to live. Mister C is now nine years old now, and is in year four at primary school. He loves super-heroes, building bricks ('Lego'), jumping really high on our trampoline at home and playing with our sweet pets. He has a big imagination and dreams a lot about interesting and funny stuff. We have two sweet doggies named 'Rhetti' and 'Niki', many chickens (lots of names there), three beautiful painted finches, named 'Red', 'Robin' & 'Ruby'. We have many wild animals that like to visit on a regular basis, like 'Bluey' the blue tongue lizard, 'Baby Poss', our resident brush tail possum, our family of king parrots, named 'George', 'Mildred' and 'Gilbert', 'Freddy' our resident green frog and family of noisy magpies, named 'Monte', Maggie', 'Carlo and the new twins. Pastimes for me include painting (anything), reading, illustrating, playing board games with Mister C and the girls, and of course writing (lots of writing!). Without children the world would be a quiet place!...
